Three picks are taken from MLB with one from College Football. A winning ticket gives us a nice payout with odds at +881 with DraftKings; that’s more than 8/1! Let’s break down each of these plays.
MLB: Philadelphia Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers ML (-135), 2:10pm ET
Zack Wheeler is having a great season, but since his best outing, a complete-game shutout against the Mets on August 8, he has struggled. Over his last 4 starts, he has given up a combined 19 ER and 5 homers.
A couple of starts ago Brandon Woodruff got hit hard in a loss to St. Louis. However, in typical ace fashion, he rebounded with two big-time starts including a win over San Francisco in his last outing. Over the last 2 games, he has given up just 1 run over 12 innings with 18 strikeouts. He is 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA at home. These are definitely pitchers who can dominate an opponent.
Wheeler’s struggles might have created a buying opportunity but it is tough to grab that against a first-place team like the Brewers and especially on the road. Instead, back the Brew Crew with Woodruff. There’s no need to overthink it, and the premium is not too great. Take Milwaukee.

MLB: Cincinnati Reds ML (-155) vs Chicago Cubs, 2:20pm ET
It is good timing that Reds’ starter, Sonny Gray appears to be rounding into form. He has won his last 3 starts and has given up just 6 hits in his last 18.0 innings. Two of those have been homers, the only way that opponents have scored against him during that stretch.
Lefty Justin Steele has made just 4 starts for the Cubs this season. His last was his best as he held the Twins to just 1 hit over 5.0 innings of shutout ball. It was the first time they won a start of his this season. It would be better if they were the team with more momentum, too, but that is not enough to move off them on Monday, especially not with the way that Gray is pitching. Take the money line, though, until the Reds get things going again.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-125) vs St. Louis Cardinals, 4:15pm ET
Dodger blue might be Max Scherzer’s color. He is 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP with the Dodgers and LA has won all 6 of his starts. Scherzer was good for the Nationals and was having another great season of his long successful career, but he’s been a different beast in LA. He has shut down some of the most powerful offenses in the league since moving to the west coast as the Astros, Padres, and Braves have combined for 2 runs in 20.2 innings against Scherzer. He consistently gives the Dodgers 6 innings of work, which leaves only 3 or so innings for the stacked LA bullpen, which ranks 1st in ERA, WHIP, and opponent batting average in the last 15 days.
The combination of Scherzer and the Dodgers bullpen is the reason opponents have scored only 10 total runs in Scherzer’s last 5 starts. The Dodgers have won Scherzer’s 3 road starts by an average of 6.33 runs, so feel confident backing the Dodgers by the -1.5 run line.

NCAAF pick: Louisville Cardinals vs Ole Miss Rebels – Over 75.5 points (-110), 8pm ET
While Louisville plays at a considerably slower pace than Ole Miss, the Rebels should put up points early and often, which means that the Cardinals may not have the luxury of longer, time-consuming drives to stay within reach. Additionally, both defenses were routinely exposed a season ago and will likely struggle to keep the opposing offense out of the end zone.
Ole Miss played at the fifth-fastest pace in the nation a season ago, dialing up 81.6 offensive plays per game. Don’t expect that to change in Matt Corral’s third year as the starting quarterback, and Lane Kiffin’s second season at the helm of one of the most explosive offenses in the Power 5.
If both quarterbacks start out hot, this early-season matchup could quickly turn into an arena football game. Take the over.
