The 2021 MLB season is approaching the home stretch, and it’s been long enough for us to more or less know where things stand. We have a nice slate on Tuesday, with plenty of opportunities for value. One of the best games is this AL showdown as the Chicago White Sox take on the Oakland A’s. What better way to make this game even more exciting than by betting a same game parlay?

We of course also have thoughts on the side and total for each of today’s matchup, which you can view in our ‘MLB picks‘ tab.

Oakland Athletics -2.5 (+225)

James Kaprielian to record 7+ strikeouts (+240)

Same Game Parlay odds: +1074

We have a simple 2-leg parlay which pays out just shy of 11/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s break it down:

Oakland Athletics -2.5 (+225)

The White Sox haven’t been playing their best ball recently, as they’re exactly .500 since July 20th. Chicago is coming off a 6-0 loss at the hands of Kansas City. They’ve also got pretty stark home/road splits. The White Sox are a stellar 46-24 at home this season, but are actually a game below .500 on the road. They’ll start Jimmy Lambert here, which makes Oakland even more appealing. Lambert has made five big league appearances in his career over the past two seasons.

In those five appearances he’s gone 10 innings, giving up a whopping 19 baserunners and eight earned runs. He hasn’t gone more than 3 and 2/3 innings yet, which means Chicago’s bullpen is going to have to do a lot of work. Oakland has scored at least eight runs in three of their past four games, which means the potential for disaster for Lambert here is high. It also means the A’s have a lot of offensiveupside, which is necessary for any alt run line.

James Kaprielian to record 7+ strikeouts (+240)

This correlates heavily with the first leg of our same game parlay. If Kaprielian is having a great game and making guys miss, the A’s are much more likely to cover the -2.5. Kaprielian’s strikeout numbers have been up and down, but overall he’s at more than one per inning this season. He’s clearly got the upside to make tons of batters whiff, like when he struck out 10 against the Red Sox in July. Kaprielian has struck out at least seven batters in five of his last 13 starts. For a bet to be profitable long-term at +240 odds, it only has to cash 29.4 percent of the time. 5/13 is 38.5 percent. Four of those five starts came at home, and Kaprielian has been much better at home overall this year.
