The playoffs are in full swing, and the NFL is bringing us an exciting matchup on Monday night as the Dallas Cowboys head to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cowboys had a disappointing end to the regular season, losing 26-6 to Washington and missing out on a division title. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, also had a loss in their final game, falling 30-17 to Atlanta, but still secured the NFC South title and a home-field advantage for this wild-card game.
In the all-time regular season series, Dallas holds the edge with a 13-6 record and has won both previous playoff meetings against Tampa Bay. However, the Buccaneers have come out victorious in the last two meetings, including a 19-3 win in the opening week of this season.
The Cowboys put on a poor performance in their last game, trailing 13-0 early in the second quarter and only scoring with six seconds left in the first half to bring the score to 13-6. The Cowboys were outgained 309-182 in total offense, gave up 16 first downs while getting only 10, lost the time of possession 36:12 to 23:48 and turned the ball over twice while only forcing one takeaway. This season, the Cowboys are 14th in passing offense with 219.8 yards per game, 9th in rushing offense with 135.2 yards per game, 4th in scoring offense with 27.5 points per game and 5th in scoring defense with 20.1 points per game.
On the other side of the field, the Buccaneers had a trying season with issues on the offensive line and players shuffling in and out of the lineup, but managed to secure the NFC South title despite an 8-9 record. In their last game against Atlanta, the Buccaneers substituted players liberally and it showed as they were outscored 20-0 in the second half.
The Cowboys have a relatively light injury report heading into this game, with only cornerback Trayvon Mullen missing practice due to illness. Tackle Tyron Smith and defensive end Demarcus Lawrence were limited in practice but are expected to play. The Buccaneers have not reported any significant injuries heading into this game.
Both teams will be looking to come out on top and advance to the next round of the playoffs. With a spot in the divisional round on the line, this is sure to be an exciting game.
