MLB Picks Today — August 3, 2026
Updated August 3, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Every game on Monday's board carries the standard -1.5 run line, so the separating factor is how each price relates to its moneyline and where totals fall, ranging from 8 up to Tampa Bay-Colorado's 11.5. The most notable number is Padres-Diamondbacks, where the run-line favorite and the moneyline favorite are different teams, an inversion worth more attention than any of the tighter, more conventionally priced lines elsewhere on the slate.

The Card On Aug 3
Baseball is a volume sport. Fifteen games a day means more chances to be right and far more chances to overplay, so sizing matters more here than in any other league.
No graded plays were published on this page for August 3, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on August 3, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies
Card focus
MLB · Mon 6:41 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 9.5 · ML Nationals +144 / Phillies -170
Philadelphia sits at -1.5 with a -170 moneyline against Washington's +144, a gap that says the market expects a two-run margin more often than a bare one-run edge for the favorite. A single-run Phillies win still cashes the moneyline but loses the run line, so the -1.5 price is really a bet on separation, not just a Phillies win. The total of 9.5 is among the higher numbers on the board tonight, meaning the over needs both offenses contributing rather than one big frame.
St. Louis Cardinals at New York Yankees
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:06 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Cardinals +182 / Yankees -214
New York's -1.5 comes with a -214 moneyline, one of the steeper prices on the slate, while St. Louis sits at +182. That spread between the run line and moneyline number implies the market sees a real chance the Yankees win by exactly one, which would cash the moneyline side but leave run-line bettors empty. The total sits at 8, the lowest on the board, so the under needs the Yankees' margin to come from limiting runs rather than piling them on.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:41 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Pirates +126 / Brewers -142
Milwaukee's -1.5 at -142 against Pittsburgh's +126 is a moderate gap, not the widest on the card, which suggests the market gives the Pirates a live path to either an outright upset or a backdoor cover by keeping the game within a run. The total of 8 matches several other games tonight, putting this line closer to a coin-flip run environment than a high-scoring one. Leaning Brewers -1.5 is a bet on the favorite pulling away rather than just winning.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs
MLB · Mon 8:06 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Dodgers -122 / Cubs +107
Los Angeles is favored by 1.5 but the moneyline sits at just -122 against Chicago's +107, a notably tight number for a run-line favorite. That gap says the market expects a close, possibly one-run game more than a blowout, which makes the -1.5 side a tougher lay than the moneyline alone would suggest. The total of 8 is on the low end of tonight's board, and with the side price this thin, the total may be the cleaner angle here.
San Francisco Giants at Texas Rangers
MLB · Mon 8:06 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Giants +105 / Rangers -121
Texas closes at -1.5 with a -121 moneyline, barely more than even money, while San Francisco sits at +105. That's about as tight as a run-line favorite gets, meaning the market is not confident the Rangers separate by two runs rather than one. Backing -1.5 here means leaning into a thin price gap rather than any clear separation signal. The total of 8 sits at the lower end of the slate, worth attention given how flat the side price is.
Toronto Blue Jays at Houston Astros
MLB · Mon 8:10 PM ET · Astros -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Jays +111 / Astros -127
Houston's -1.5 at -127 against Toronto's +111 is a middling number, not the tightest or the widest on the board. The moneyline gap implies a moderate but real chance the Astros win by just one, which would still cash the moneyline while losing the run line. The total of 9 sits toward the middle of tonight's totals, giving neither side an obvious lean, so this line reads as a genuine coin-flip on margin rather than on outcome.
Tampa Bay Rays at Colorado Rockies
MLB · Mon 8:41 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 11.5 · ML Rays -164 / Rockies +145
Tampa Bay's -1.5 at -164 against Colorado's +145 is a firmer favorite price than most of the board tonight, and the total of 11.5 stands out as the highest number on the slate by a wide margin. That combination says the market expects this game to be decided by scoring volume rather than pitching, which makes the total the more interesting number here. Backing the Rays -1.5 is a bet on the favorite outscoring rather than grinding out a low count.
San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Padres -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Padres +100 / Diamondbacks -115
This is the one inversion on the board: San Diego is favored by 1.5 on the run line, but the moneyline actually favors Arizona at -115 with the Padres at +100. That split means the market thinks Arizona is slightly more likely to win outright, while San Diego is only priced to cover -1.5 in the scenarios where it does win. The total of 9 is unremarkable, but the side market here is the more interesting price on the slate given that mismatch.
How To Read Today's MLB Numbers
Baseball prices differently from football, and reading the board above the way you would read an NFL slate is the most common mistake a crossover bettor makes.
- The moneyline is the real market. Run lines exist, but the -1.5 is a derivative of a price that is already tight. Start with the moneyline and the implied probability it represents.
- Ten cents is enormous. The difference between -140 and -150 on a side you bet all season is the difference between a winning year and a flat one. This is the sport where line shopping pays the most.
- Totals carry more information than sides. A baseball total moves on pitching, park and conditions, and the market's estimate of all three is knowable in advance. See park factors.
- Lineups and pitching changes reprice everything. A confirmed scratch can move a total a full run. Numbers posted this morning are a starting point, not a settled price.
Why Baseball Punishes Overbetting
A full MLB slate offers fifteen games and forty-five markets before you reach props. That volume is the sport's opportunity and its trap: the same bettor who would take two NFL plays a week will happily take eight baseball plays a night, and the bankroll cannot absorb the correlation or the variance.
A baseball day should look like a normal day, not a bigger one. If a full slate routinely produces more plays than a thin one, the selection process is responding to availability rather than to price.
The mathematics behind that is in variance and drawdowns: a 55% bettor still loses six of ten some weeks, and the only thing that decides whether that is survivable is how much was on each one.
What Makes Today's Card
Every MLB play on the card has to clear the vig on its own merits — our price on the game differs from the market's by more than it costs to get on. Starting pitching and the total do most of that work, which is why the card leans toward totals and first-five-innings markets more than most services do.
The first five innings page explains why removing a bullpen from the equation often prices better than betting the full game, and the record is posted publicly either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on August 3, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see mlb picks today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
