MLB Picks Today — August 13, 2026
Updated August 13, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Thursday's MLB board is thick with -1.5 favorites priced tight enough on the moneyline to blur the line between covering and simply winning. Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit-side Tigers dogs, and several others show a real gap between run-line demands and straight win odds. Totals stay bunched between 7.5 and 8.5, leaving most of the value conversation on whether the extra run gets scored rather than who wins outright.

The Card On Aug 13
Baseball is a volume sport. Fifteen games a day means more chances to be right and far more chances to overplay, so sizing matters more here than in any other league.
No graded plays were published on this page for August 13, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on August 13, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers
Card focus
MLB · Thu 1:11 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Guardians -123 / Tigers +110
Cleveland's -123 moneyline is a modest favorite price, yet the -1.5 line asks for a two-run margin, a materially harder outcome than just winning. Detroit only needs to lose by one or win outright to cash as a live dog on the number. That gap between moneyline shortness and spread size is the story here. The total sits at a flat 8, offering no half-run cushion on either side, which makes it the closer read of the two markets tonight.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins
Card focus
MLB · Thu 1:11 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Pirates -124 / Marlins +110
Pittsburgh's -124 price and the -1.5 line tell two different stories: the moneyline says a near coin-flip winner, the spread demands a multi-run margin. Miami's number as a dog only requires staying within a run or winning straight up, a lower bar than the run line implies. At a total of 8, the market isn't leaning hard either way on scoring, so bettors are really choosing between margin risk on the side and flat variance on the total.
Philadelphia Phillies at Minnesota Twins
Card focus
MLB · Thu 7:30 PM ET · Pick'em · O/U 8.5 · ML Phillies -104 / Twins -113
A pick'em spread with Minnesota juiced slightly at -113 against Philadelphia's -104 means the market sees this as close to even money either way. There's no run-line margin question tonight since the spread is flat at zero, so the entire bet is a straight winner call. The total at 8.5 is a half-run over the more common 8, meaning under bettors need one fewer run to cash than they would at a round number.
Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees
MLB · Thu 1:36 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Mariners +122 / Yankees -138
New York's -138 moneyline paired with a -1.5 spread shows a favorite priced to win comfortably more than half the time, but still needing extra offense to cover the run line. Seattle at +122 only needs to keep it within a run to grade live on the number. The total drops to 7.5, the lowest on the board, meaning under bettors have the tightest margin for error of any total surveyed today.
Cincinnati Reds at Chicago White Sox
MLB · Thu 2:11 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Reds +120 / Sox -132
Chicago's -132 price against Cincinnati's +120 sets up a moderate favorite that still has to clear -1.5 to cover, a step beyond simply winning. Cincinnati covers the number by losing a close one or winning outright. The total at 8.5 gives the under a half-run buffer compared to a flat 8, which matters if this game trends toward fewer total runs than the moneyline favorite's price would suggest.
Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays
MLB · Thu 3:08 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Sox -156 / Jays +138
Boston's -156 moneyline is the shortest favorite price on the early slate, and the -1.5 spread asks for a two-run win on top of that. Toronto at +138 clears the number by staying within a run or winning outright, which is a much lower bar than the moneyline gap implies. The total holds at a flat 8, with no half-run cushion, making it the more balanced of the two markets on this game.
Chicago Cubs at Washington Nationals
MLB · Thu 4:06 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Cubs -137 / Nationals +122
Chicago's -137 price against Washington's +122 sets a fairly short favorite that still needs -1.5 to cover, not just win. Washington only needs to lose by one or win to cash the spread bet. The total at 8.5 gives the under side a half-run edge over a rounder number, which is worth noting given the favorite's moneyline is short enough to suggest the market expects a comfortable, if not blowout, margin.
Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels
MLB · Thu 10:08 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Rangers -155 / Angels +134
Texas at -155 is priced as a clear favorite, and the -1.5 spread requires that edge to show up as an actual multi-run margin rather than just a win. Los Angeles at +134 covers by keeping it a one-run game or winning outright. The total sits at a flat 8, with no half-run buffer either direction, making the total the tighter, more binary read on this late West Coast matchup.
Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers
MLB · Thu 10:10 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Brewers +127 / Dodgers -147
Los Angeles's -147 moneyline against Milwaukee's +127 marks a solid favorite, but the attached -1.5 spread still asks for more than a plain win. Milwaukee clears the number by staying within a run or taking the game outright. The total at 8.5 gives the over side the rounder threshold to clear, needing nine runs rather than eight, which is the more precise way to frame this closing West Coast total.
How To Read Today's MLB Numbers
Baseball prices differently from football, and reading the board above the way you would read an NFL slate is the most common mistake a crossover bettor makes.
- The moneyline is the real market. Run lines exist, but the -1.5 is a derivative of a price that is already tight. Start with the moneyline and the implied probability it represents.
- Ten cents is enormous. The difference between -140 and -150 on a side you bet all season is the difference between a winning year and a flat one. This is the sport where line shopping pays the most.
- Totals carry more information than sides. A baseball total moves on pitching, park and conditions, and the market's estimate of all three is knowable in advance. See park factors.
- Lineups and pitching changes reprice everything. A confirmed scratch can move a total a full run. Numbers posted this morning are a starting point, not a settled price.
Why Baseball Punishes Overbetting
A full MLB slate offers fifteen games and forty-five markets before you reach props. That volume is the sport's opportunity and its trap: the same bettor who would take two NFL plays a week will happily take eight baseball plays a night, and the bankroll cannot absorb the correlation or the variance.
A baseball day should look like a normal day, not a bigger one. If a full slate routinely produces more plays than a thin one, the selection process is responding to availability rather than to price.
The mathematics behind that is in variance and drawdowns: a 55% bettor still loses six of ten some weeks, and the only thing that decides whether that is survivable is how much was on each one.
What Makes Today's Card
Every MLB play on the card has to clear the vig on its own merits — our price on the game differs from the market's by more than it costs to get on. Starting pitching and the total do most of that work, which is why the card leans toward totals and first-five-innings markets more than most services do.
The first five innings page explains why removing a bullpen from the equation often prices better than betting the full game, and the record is posted publicly either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on August 13, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see mlb picks today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
