Expert Sports Picks Today
Updated July 26, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
The word expert does no work in this industry. Anybody can print it. What actually distinguishes a professional handicapper is duller and more checkable: an independent projection for every game, a documented record that includes the losses, and a staking plan attached to every play.
Here is what those three things mean in practice, and what physically arrives when you take a membership.
Three Things A Professional Does That An Amateur Does Not
Prices the game before looking at the market. The point of handicapping is to produce a number independently and then compare it with the posted line. If you look at the line first, you anchor to it, and your "projection" becomes a slightly rearranged version of what the book already told you. Every play on this card starts from an independent projected margin and total.
Publishes the losses. A record is only information if it is complete. The records board here runs month by month and sport by sport with the losing months left in, because a filtered record is indistinguishable from a fabricated one.
Tells you how much to bet. A side and a number is half a recommendation. Without a unit size you have no idea whether the handicapper considers it a marginal edge or a strong one, and you end up sizing on emotion — which is where most bankrolls actually die. Every play here carries a unit number.
What Arrives With Each Play
Every release contains four things, in this order:
- The play and the price. The side or total, plus the number and the price it was available at when released. If you can only get a worse number, that is recorded too, and sometimes the correct action is to pass.
- The unit size. Expressed as a percentage of bankroll, not as a dollar figure, so it scales to whatever you are actually playing with.
- The write-up. Why the number is wrong. Usually two or three paragraphs: what the projection says, what the market is pricing, and which situational factors support or complicate it.
- The grade, afterwards. Win, loss or push, posted publicly.
Read enough of them and you stop needing them. The reasoning is transferable in a way that the side is not — which is the actual long-term value of following a professional.
Twelve Years, Five Sports, One Method
Money Maverick has handicapped professionally since 2012 across the NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball and MLB, and has reached the finals of Las Vegas handicapping contests multiple times — a format that is useful precisely because it is public, dated and impossible to revise afterwards.
The method does not change by sport, but the inputs do. Football is a low-event, high-variance sport where key numbers and half-points decide the season. Baseball is a long grind where starting pitching and park factors dominate. Basketball turns on pace, rest and rotation news. The about page covers the background in more detail.
How To Judge Any Expert, Including This One
Do not judge on a week. A 57% handicapper — genuinely excellent at standard prices — will still have losing weeks about a third of the time and losing months several times a season. Variance at these hit rates is enormous, and any judgement made over ten plays is noise.
Judge on two things instead. First, whether the plays beat the closing number, which shows the edge is real even during a drawdown. Second, whether the record is complete and the reasoning is checkable. Both tests are explained on the how to choose a picks service page, and both apply here as much as anywhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes someone a professional handicapper?
Handicapping being the job rather than the hobby, and a documented public record long enough to be meaningful. Money Maverick has handicapped professionally since 2012 across five sports with every play graded publicly, and has been a multiple-time finalist in Las Vegas handicapping contests.
Do I get analysis or just the picks?
Both. Every play ships with a write-up explaining what the projection says, what the market is pricing and which situational factors matter, plus the recommended unit size.
How many sports are covered?
Five: NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball and MLB. All-sports memberships cover every play in every sport, and sport-specific season passes are available for football and for basketball.
What win rate should I expect from expert picks?
Anything sustained above 55% at standard -110 pricing is strong, and the long-run figure here is around 64% across sports. Expect that to arrive unevenly, with losing weeks and occasional losing months inside a profitable season.
