Best Bets Today — August 24, 2026
Updated August 24, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Monday's board is entirely MLB, with all ten games carrying the standard 1.5 run line. The interesting split across the slate is how far each moneyline strays from that number — a few games price the winner as close to a coin flip while still asking for a run and a half of margin, while others carry heavy juice suggesting multi-run favorites. Totals range from 6.5 up to 10.5, giving plenty of separation for anyone comparing over/under value game to game.
Archived edition — market snapshot from Monday, August 24, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see best bets today.
The Card On Aug 24
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
No graded plays were published on this page for August 24, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on August 24, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Boston Red Sox at Miami Marlins
Card focus
MLB · Mon 6:41 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Sox -130 / Marlins +116
Boston's -130 moneyline against a -1.5 run line signals a moderate but not dominant favorite; a meaningful share of the implied probability sits in one-run Red Sox wins that would cash the moneyline but miss the spread. For Miami, the appeal is that plus 1.5 cushion rather than the plus-money line itself. The total sits at 7.5, middling for this pair, so the side carries more shape to work with than the total tonight.
Tampa Bay Rays at Detroit Tigers
Card focus
MLB · Mon 6:41 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Rays -141 / Tigers +120
Tampa Bay's -141 price is a clear step above a coin-flip favorite, and the -1.5 spread is asking bettors to project something closer to a multi-run win rather than a one-run squeaker. That gap between moneyline and run-line pricing is the number worth studying — Detroit at +120 only needs to stay within a run, not win outright. The 7.5 total looks more balanced by comparison, with less separation baked into either side.
Colorado Rockies at Washington Nationals
Card focus
MLB · Mon 6:46 PM ET · Nationals -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Rockies +162 / Nationals -185
Washington's -185 moneyline is well clear of even money, and that gap relative to the -1.5 run line matters: a favorite priced this heavily typically needs to win by two or more with some regularity to justify the number, which can make the run line the cheaper route to the same side. Colorado at +162 is priced to steal the game outright, not merely cover. At 8.5, the total runs on the higher side of tonight's range.
Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:41 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Rangers +112 / Sox -130
Chicago's -130 price and its -1.5 run line track fairly closely here, meaning there isn't much extra premium for laying the additional run over simply backing the moneyline. Texas at +112 is priced as live to win outright, not just to keep the margin under 1.5. With the total also at 8.5, matching another game on tonight's board, the side is the more textured number to shop in this matchup.
Cleveland Guardians at Los Angeles Angels
MLB · Mon 9:39 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Guardians -164 / Angels +139
Cleveland's -164 moneyline outpaces its -1.5 run line by enough that the market is building in real odds of a multi-run win, not just a single-run edge. Los Angeles at +139 is taking a discount to either win outright or lose narrowly enough to cover the plus number. The total sits at 8, lower than several others tonight, giving total bettors a reduced baseline to weigh against the more scoring-friendly matchups on the slate.
Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB · Mon 9:40 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Cubs -141 / Diamondbacks +120
Chicago's -141 moneyline sits in the same range as Tampa Bay's earlier tonight, pointing to a favorite expected to separate by more than a single run often enough to matter for run-line value. Arizona at +120 needs to stay within a run or win outright to cash. The total here is 9, the highest posted so far, which makes it a more relevant number to weigh than the side for anyone shopping totals tonight.
Pittsburgh Pirates at San Diego Padres
MLB · Mon 9:40 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Pirates -109 / Padres -108
This is the flattest moneyline on the board — Pittsburgh at -109 and San Diego at -108 is essentially a coin flip on the outright winner, yet the posted spread still asks for a 1.5-run Pirates margin. That combination means the run line is doing real work rather than formalizing an obvious favorite; San Diego's plus 1.5 is priced close to a true 50-50 proposition. The 7.5 total is secondary to that side price tonight.
Minnesota Twins at Athletics
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Twins -1.5 · O/U 10.5 · ML Twins -146 / Athletics +130
Minnesota's -146 moneyline against the -1.5 line points to a favorite expected to win comfortably rather than by exactly one run, and the Athletics at +130 are priced to either win outright or keep it tight. The total is the standout number tonight: 10.5 sits a full run or more above every other total on the board, which changes the math for anyone comparing over/under value across this slate.
Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Phillies -115 / Mariners -101
Philadelphia's -115 moneyline is barely above even money, similar to the Pittsburgh-San Diego price earlier tonight, yet the run line still sits at -1.5. Seattle at -101 is effectively a pick, meaning the plus 1.5 here functions as a real hedge rather than an afterthought. The total is the more distinctive number in this matchup — 6.5 is the lowest posted tonight, well below several others, which makes the under side worth extra attention.
Cincinnati Reds at San Francisco Giants
MLB · Mon 9:45 PM ET · Reds -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Reds -154 / Giants +134
Cincinnati's -154 moneyline separates clearly from a coin flip, and the gap to the -1.5 run line suggests the market expects the Reds to win by more than a single run with some frequency. San Francisco's +134 is priced to either win outright or keep the margin inside two. At 7.5, the total sits in the middle of tonight's range, making the side — with its wider moneyline-to-spread gap — the sharper number to examine here.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on August 24, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see best bets today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
