Best Bets Today: September 6, 2026

Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.

Updated September 6, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

18 games on the Best Bets board for Sunday, September 6, 2026 across MLB, NCAAF. 15 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Brewers @ Reds at -1.5 — a one-score game the market leans in only slightly. Totals average 15.3 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.

Numbers below are the median across 10 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds

Card focus

MLB · Sun 12:10 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Brewers -159 / Reds +136

Brewers is only -1.5 against Reds, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 9 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Brewers -159 / Reds +136. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:10 PM ET · Braves -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Braves -107 / Phillies -109

A -1.5 price on Braves puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Braves -107 / Phillies -109. Prices move up to 1:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:35 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Sox -134 / Orioles +116

The consensus has Sox -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 7.5. Moneyline consensus is Sox -134 / Orioles +116. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 1:35 PM ET and decide from there.

Los Angeles Angels at Pittsburgh Pirates

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:35 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Angels +165 / Pirates -194

-1.5 on Pirates is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Angels to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 7.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Angels +165 / Pirates -194. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:35 PM ET.

Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians

MLB · Sun 1:40 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Tigers +140 / Guardians -166

Guardians is only -1.5 against Tigers, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Tigers +140 / Guardians -166. Compare this against your own book before 1:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

San Francisco Giants at New York Mets

MLB · Sun 1:40 PM ET · Mets -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Giants +130 / Mets -154

A -1.5 price on Mets puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Giants +130 / Mets -154. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 1:40 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Chicago Cubs at Miami Marlins

MLB · Sun 1:41 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Cubs -146 / Marlins +125

The consensus has Cubs -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8. Moneyline consensus is Cubs -146 / Marlins +125. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 1:41 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Houston Astros

MLB · Sun 2:10 PM ET · Diamondbacks -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Diamondbacks -106 / Astros -110

-1.5 on Diamondbacks is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Astros to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 8, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Diamondbacks -106 / Astros -110. Prices move up to 2:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Toronto Blue Jays at Kansas City Royals

MLB · Sun 2:11 PM ET · Jays -1.5 · O/U 9.5 · ML Jays -119 / Royals +100

Jays is only -1.5 against Royals, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 9.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Jays -119 / Royals +100. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 2:11 PM ET and decide from there.

Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers

MLB · Sun 2:36 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Rays -106 / Rangers -112

A -1.5 price on Rays puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 7.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Rays -106 / Rangers -112. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 2:36 PM ET.

St. Louis Cardinals at Colorado Rockies

MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Cardinals -1.5 · O/U 11 · ML Cardinals -129 / Rockies +111

The consensus has Cardinals -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 11. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals -129 / Rockies +111. Compare this against your own book before 3:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Washington State Cougars at Washington Huskies

NCAAF · Sun 4:00 PM ET · Huskies -23.5 · O/U 51 · ML Cougars +1103 / Huskies -2450

A -23.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 51, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Cougars +1103 / Huskies -2450. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 4:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Athletics at Seattle Mariners

MLB · Sun 4:10 PM ET · Mariners -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Athletics +170 / Mariners -195

Mariners is only -1.5 against Athletics, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Athletics +170 / Mariners -195. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 4:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

New York Yankees at San Diego Padres

MLB · Sun 4:10 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Yankees -110 / Padres -104

A -1.5 price on Yankees puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 7 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Yankees -110 / Padres -104. Prices move up to 4:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox

MLB · Sun 6:20 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Twins +123 / Sox -145

The consensus has Sox -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Twins +123 / Sox -145. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 6:20 PM ET and decide from there.

Louisville Cardinals at Ole Miss Rebels

NCAAF · Sun 7:30 PM ET · Rebels -6.5 · O/U 55 · ML Cardinals +210 / Rebels -265

Rebels -6.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. The total sits at 55, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals +210 / Rebels -265. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 7:30 PM ET.

Wisconsin Badgers at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

NCAAF · Sun 7:30 PM ET · Irish -20.5 · O/U 46.5 · ML Badgers +965 / Irish -1800

-20.5 on Irish is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 46.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Badgers +965 / Irish -1800. Compare this against your own book before 7:30 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Washington Nationals at Los Angeles Dodgers

MLB · Sun 10:11 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Nationals +180 / Dodgers -218

A -1.5 price on Dodgers puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Nationals +180 / Dodgers -218. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 10:11 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

What Makes A Play A Best Bet

The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.

  1. A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
  2. A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
  3. A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
  4. A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
What this rules out

Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.

How To Compare Prices Across Sports

The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.

Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.

The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.

What This Page Is Not

It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.

It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are today's best bets?

The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.

Is there a best bet every day?

No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.

How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?

Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.

Can I see previous days' best bets?

Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
