Best Bets Today: October 3, 2026
Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 3, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Saturday's board runs four MLB games alongside a full college football slate. Baseball is built entirely on 1.5 run lines, with favorites priced from -133 to -215, keeping spread and moneyline value close together. Football ranges from true coin-flip numbers near 1.5 and exact field-goal spreads at 3 to five double-digit mismatches with totals clustered in the low 50s. The flat 3-point lines carry the most structural tension on the board, since they offer no half-point cushion against a push.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Guardians
Card focus
MLB · Sat 1:01 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Sox +130 / Guardians -154
Cleveland's -1.5 run line carries a -154 moneyline, meaning the market is pricing mostly for a Guardians win, not specifically for a two-run margin. Chicago at +130 only needs to win outright or lose by exactly one run to cash the other side of the spread, which is the appeal of the run line over the moneyline price. The total sits at a standard 7, offering no particular lean toward an unusually high- or low-scoring game.
Virginia Cavaliers at Florida State Seminoles
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Cavaliers -1.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Cavaliers -120 / Seminoles +100
Virginia's -1.5 is barely a lean, and the -120/+100 moneyline split confirms the market sees this closer to even than the spread number alone suggests. For Virginia -1.5 to be correct, the Cavaliers need more than a field goal of separation; Florida State covers with any loss inside two points. At 51.5 the total is the more textured number here, sitting in a range where execution, not margin, decides the bet.
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers
Card focus
MLB · Sat 4:00 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Braves +180 / Dodgers -215
The -1.5 line at -215 is priced mostly for a Dodgers win outright, not specifically for a two-run-plus margin. Atlanta's side of the run line only requires keeping the final margin to one run or stealing the game. The total of 8.5 is elevated for an MLB line, which puts more of the real decision in this game on the total number itself rather than on either side of the spread.
New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays
Card focus
MLB · Sat 6:31 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Yankees +114 / Rays -133
Tampa Bay -1.5 at -133 sits in the typical run-line band, where the two-run cover requirement separates the spread price from the moneyline price. New York at +114 covers with an outright win or a one-run loss. The total at 7 is unremarkable, a standard number that doesn't flag either market as more interesting than the other on this particular game.
Memphis Tigers at Charlotte 49ers
NCAAF · Sat 11:00 AM ET · Tigers -20.5 · O/U 52.5 · ML Tigers -1400 / 49ers +843
A 20.5-point spread with a -1400 moneyline is pricing in a near-certain outright win, so the spread, not the result, is the real market question. Memphis covering means avoiding any letup once the outcome is decided; Charlotte covers with a loss of three touchdowns or fewer. At 52.5 the total offers the more balanced two-way price on a matchup where the side market is almost entirely one-directional.
Navy Midshipmen at Air Force Falcons
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Falcons -3 · O/U 45.5 · ML Midshipmen +128 / Falcons -150
Air Force -3 is a true field-goal number with no half-point cushion, so a three-point final pushes the spread entirely. That makes the -150 moneyline the cleaner read of the actual market lean, since it strips out the push risk built into the whole-number spread. Navy at +128 covers with a win or any loss inside two points. The 45.5 total sits in the middle for this matchup profile.
Alabama Crimson Tide at Mississippi State Bulldogs
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Tide -5.5 · O/U 60.5 · ML Tide -220 / Bulldogs +180
Alabama's -5.5 sits between the two most common football key numbers, three and seven, which generally makes half-point spreads in that zone less sensitive to backdoor covers than a flat 6 or 7. Mississippi State covers with a loss of five points or fewer. The total at 60.5 is the highest on today's board, and paired with a -220 favorite price, it may carry more two-way uncertainty than the side itself.
Boston College Eagles at SMU Mustangs
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Mustangs -21 · O/U 55.5 · ML Eagles +1021 / Mustangs -2000
SMU's -21 with a -2000 moneyline is as lopsided as this slate gets, pricing the outcome as settled well before kickoff. Boston College's side of the spread becomes a question of second-half scoring once the result is decided, not of competing for the win. The 55.5 total is the more balanced number in this matchup, the only market here not dominated by one side's near-certain probability.
UCF Knights at Houston Cougars
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cougars -11 · O/U 51 · ML Knights +330 / Cougars -435
Houston -11 with a -435 moneyline splits the difference between the double-digit blowouts and the closer games on today's board. UCF covers with a loss inside two touchdowns, a materially different outcome than winning outright. At 51 the total sits in line with typical numbers for a double-digit favorite, giving no particular signal toward pace or scoring environment beyond the figure itself.
West Virginia Mountaineers at Iowa State Cyclones
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cyclones -3 · O/U 53 · ML Mountaineers +134 / Cyclones -155
Iowa State -3 is another true field-goal number without a half-point buffer, so an exact three-point final pushes rather than settles the side. That push risk is worth weighing against the -155 moneyline price directly. West Virginia at +134 covers with a win or a loss of two points or less. The total at 53 is unremarkable relative to the rest of the slate.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Kansas Jayhawks
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Jayhawks -20.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Raiders +862 / Jayhawks -1500
Kansas -20.5 at -1500 is priced almost entirely on the certainty of the win, leaving the half-point spread as the only real decision point in the side market. Middle Tennessee covers with a loss of 20 points or fewer. At 50.5 the total offers a tighter two-way price than the spread, which given the moneyline imbalance here is where the more competitive number on the board actually sits.
Michigan Wolverines at Minnesota Golden Gophers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Wolverines -6 · O/U 43 · ML Wolverines -225 / Gophers +189
Michigan -6 lands between the field-goal and touchdown key numbers, a spot where half-point value matters less than at 6.5 or 7 specifically. Minnesota covers with a loss of five points or fewer. The total at 43 is low relative to the rest of the card, which puts more weight on the total price than the side if the expectation is a lower-scoring, field-position-driven game.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at North Carolina Tar Heels
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Irish -21 · O/U 46.5 · ML Irish -1800 / Heels +1000
Notre Dame's -21 with a -1800 moneyline again prices this as a near-certainty on the win, which shifts the more interesting question to the spread rather than the outright result. North Carolina covers with a loss of 20 points or fewer. The total of 46.5 is the lowest on today's board, a notable contrast to a 21-point spread and worth more attention than the side itself.
Stanford Cardinal at Wake Forest Demon Deacons
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Deacons -14 · O/U 53.5 · ML Cardinal +453 / Deacons -625
Wake Forest -14 at -625 is a two-score-plus line with a moneyline that reflects heavy but not extreme favoritism. Stanford covers with a loss of 13 points or fewer, a meaningfully different bar than simply staying competitive late. The total sits at 53.5, middle of the pack for today's slate, offering a more balanced two-way number than the double-digit spread does here.
Syracuse Orange at UConn Huskies
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Orange -6.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Orange -257 / Huskies +212
The number on Orange is -6.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 50.5. Moneyline consensus is Orange -257 / Huskies +212. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Michigan State Spartans at Wisconsin Badgers
NCAAF · Sat 12:30 PM ET · Badgers -9 · O/U 43.5 · ML Spartans +285 / Badgers -370
The books have Badgers at -9, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 43.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Spartans +285 / Badgers -370. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:30 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Vanderbilt Commodores at Georgia Bulldogs
NCAAF · Sat 12:45 PM ET · Bulldogs -25.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Commodores +1400 / Bulldogs -3200
-25.5 on Bulldogs is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 50.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Commodores +1400 / Bulldogs -3200. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:45 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Western Michigan Broncos at Buffalo Bulls
NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Broncos -13 · O/U 46 · ML Broncos -542 / Bulls +400
A -13 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 46 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Broncos -542 / Bulls +400. Prices move up to 1:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Toledo Rockets at Ball State Cardinals
NCAAF · Sat 2:00 PM ET · Rockets -21 · O/U 51.5 · ML Rockets -1425 / Cardinals +850
A -21 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 51.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Rockets -1425 / Cardinals +850. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 2:00 PM ET.
Akron Zips at Central Michigan Chippewas
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Chippewas -6.5 · O/U 47 · ML Zips +210 / Chippewas -255
The number on Chippewas is -6.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. 47 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Zips +210 / Chippewas -255. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Compare this against your own book before 3:30 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Auburn Tigers at Tennessee Volunteers
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Volunteers -6.5 · O/U 54 · ML Tigers +212 / Volunteers -258
At -6.5, Volunteers is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The market has priced 54 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Tigers +212 / Volunteers -258. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 3:30 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Bowling Green Falcons at Miami (OH) RedHawks
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · RedHawks -12 · O/U 43 · ML Falcons +390 / RedHawks -525
At -12, RedHawks is being priced to win by two scores, and a number that size shifts the interesting question from who wins to whether Falcons keeps it respectable. With the side this clear, 43 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Falcons +390 / RedHawks -525. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 3:30 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
California Golden Bears at UNLV Rebels
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Rebels -2.5 · O/U 53 · ML Bears +110 / Rebels -130
-2.5 on Rebels is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Bears to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 53, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Bears +110 / Rebels -130. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Prices move up to 3:30 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Eastern Michigan Eagles at UMass Minutemen
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Minutemen -5.5 · O/U 48.5 · ML Eagles +185 / Minutemen -225
At -5.5, Minutemen is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. 48.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Eagles +185 / Minutemen -225. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 3:30 PM ET and decide from there.
Written reads cover the 24 games closest to a pick'em, where a half point of value is worth the most. The remaining 47 games on today's slate are on the full board above with consensus numbers.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.
Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.

|---|---|
| Expected value | The one calculation that defines a best bet. |
| Closing line value | How to judge a play before it settles. |
| Unit sizing | Why a best bet is not automatically a bigger bet. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What are today's best bets?
The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.
Is there a best bet every day?
No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.
How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?
Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.
Can I see previous days' best bets?
Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
