Best Bets Today: October 18, 2026
Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 18, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
A heavy NFL Sunday dominates the board, with several numbers sitting right on or just off the key margins of 3 and 7, plus two near pick'ems in the early window. The Rays-Guardians run line and Blue Jackets-Wild puck line both carry the standard 1.5 cushion, and the Chargers-Chiefs and Jets-Patriots totals sit well under 44 while two NFC South-adjacent spreads price at exactly 3. Line shape, not just the favorite, is the story across most of these.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons
Card focus
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bears -1 · O/U 52.5 · ML Bears -115 / Falcons -104
Chicago -1 with moneylines of -115 and -104 is about as close to a true coin flip as the market prices. At that number the Bears side needs any outright win, while Atlanta covers with a push or better. The total at 52.5 is the sharper look here — it's a notably high number for this pairing, and the side of it you take says more about expected pace than either team's ceiling.
New Orleans Saints at New York Giants
Card focus
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Saints -0.5 · O/U 46 · ML Saints -110 / Giants -108
New Orleans -0.5 removes the push entirely, which makes this functionally a moneyline bet wearing a half-point disguise. The Saints side is paying roughly even money for a win by any margin; the Giants side is buying the field at plus odds to win outright. With moneylines at -110 and -108, the market sees almost no separation between the two sides. The 46 total is the more neutral number on this card.
Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Guardians
Card focus
MLB · Sun 5:10 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Rays -127 / Guardians +108
Tampa Bay -1.5 on the run line requires a win by two or more; Cleveland's +1.5 covers with a one-run loss or an outright win, and the +108 price on that side reflects real respect for the Guardians moneyline. Backing the favorite on the line means paying -127 for a bigger margin than the moneyline alone would require. The 6.5 total sits at the standard split point for this matchup and is worth pricing separately from the side.
Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers
Card focus
NFL · Sun 8:20 PM ET · Packers -1 · O/U 53.5 · ML Cowboys -104 / Packers -115
Green Bay -1 with moneylines of -115 and -104 is tight enough that the spread and the moneyline are nearly interchangeable bets. The number itself isn't near a common football margin, so there's little hook value to argue over — this is a straight read on who wins by any amount. The total at 53.5 is the higher number on the slate and the more interesting side to dig into.
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
NFL · Sun 9:30 AM ET · Jaguars -2.5 · O/U 42 · ML Texans +120 / Jaguars -145
Jacksonville -2.5 sits just shy of the field-goal number, meaning the book has already priced past 3 without making either side eat a push there. Houston at +120 covers with a loss of two or less or a win outright. The 42 total is on the lower end for this slate, and with the favorite's moneyline at -145, the line itself is the cheaper way to express a Jaguars opinion than the price.
Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Ravens -3 · O/U 39.5 · ML Ravens -175 / Browns +145
Baltimore -3 sits directly on the most common NFL margin, so a push is live and the half-point either side of this number carries real value. Cleveland at +3 gets the full field-goal cushion, including backdoor scores. The moneyline gap, -175 to +145, is wider than the spread alone would suggest, meaning bettors are paying a premium for the favorite beyond just the three points. The 39.5 total is the lower number on the board.
Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Panthers -3 · O/U 39 · ML Panthers -175 / Eagles +145
Carolina -3 is the same structural bet as Baltimore-Cleveland on this slate — a push-eligible number with the moneyline (-175/+145) pricing in more than the spread alone. Philadelphia at +3 has the full field-goal hook working for it. The 39 total is the lowest on the board, which makes the over/under here arguably a sharper angle than picking a side of a number this symmetric.
Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Colts -6.5 · O/U 44.5 · ML Titans +260 / Colts -325
Indianapolis -6.5 clears the field-goal number by more than a point, so there's no push risk and Tennessee's dog number requires a cover by seven or more points of margin error to be wrong. The moneyline at -325 is steep relative to the spread, which suggests the line is the more efficient way to play the favorite than the price. The 44.5 total sits in the middle of the slate's range.
New York Jets at New England Patriots
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Patriots -7 · O/U 43.5 · ML Jets +280 / Patriots -350
New England -7 lands on the other key NFL number, so the half-point on either side of this line is meaningful — the Jets at +7 keep the full touchdown cushion, including backdoor garbage-time scores. The -350 moneyline is a lot to pay for a number that could still push, which is the central tension in this market. The 43.5 total is modest and worth weighing on its own rather than riding off the spread.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Steelers -2.5 · O/U 39 · ML Steelers -143 / Buccaneers +120
Pittsburgh -2.5 again sits just under the field-goal number, avoiding a push while still requiring the Steelers to win by three or more to clear it outright. Tampa Bay at +120 covers with a loss of two or fewer. The 39 total matches the lowest number on the slate, which makes the total here as relevant a market as the side, especially given how tight the scoring expectation appears to be.
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Rams -12.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Cardinals +575 / Rams -850
Rams -12.5 and a moneyline near -850 tell two different stories about the same game — the price implies a win probability well north of what a 12.5-point spread alone would suggest, so the side is the more interesting number to isolate. Arizona at +575 is a pure moneyline longshot play, not a spread cover play, at these prices. The 51.5 total is the second-highest on the board.
Buffalo Bills at Las Vegas Raiders
NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Bills -4.5 · O/U 53.5 · ML Bills -235 / Raiders +195
Buffalo -4.5 clears the field-goal number, so there's no push and Las Vegas at +4.5 needs only to lose by four or less, or win outright, to cash. The -235 moneyline versus -4.5 spread is a reasonably efficient pairing compared to some of the heavier favorites on this slate. The 53.5 total ties for the high mark here, making this one of the few games where both markets look genuinely live.
Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Chiefs -7.5 · O/U 41.5 · ML Chargers +320 / Chiefs -400
Kansas City -7.5 sits a half-point past the other key number on the board, removing the touchdown push that New England-Jets carries. The Chargers at +7.5 need only avoid losing by eight or more. The -400 moneyline is a steep price for a half-point adjustment off 7, which makes the spread look like the more efficient entry than the moneyline here. The 41.5 total is on the lower side of the slate.
Columbus Blue Jackets at Minnesota Wild
NHL · Sun 6:10 PM ET · Wild -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Jackets +160 / Wild -190
Minnesota -1.5 is the standard puck-line number, requiring a win by two or more goals; Columbus at +1.5 covers with any regulation loss by one or an outright win, with the +160 price reflecting that cushion. The -190 moneyline on the Wild is notably shorter than the puck line alone would imply, so the moneyline is the more expensive way to back the favorite. The 6.5 total is in the typical range for this matchup.
Carolina Hurricanes at Calgary Flames
NHL · Sun 8:10 PM ET · Hurricanes -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Hurricanes -218 / Flames +180
A -1.5 price on Hurricanes puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Hurricanes -218 / Flames +180. Prices move up to 8:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.
Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.
| Guide | What it settles |
|---|---|
| Expected value | The one calculation that defines a best bet. |
| Closing line value | How to judge a play before it settles. |
| Unit sizing | Why a best bet is not automatically a bigger bet. |
| Line shopping | The habit that turns a small edge into a real one. |
| Bankroll management | Surviving the run that tests everything. |
| Choosing a picks service | What to demand before you pay anyone. |
| Record keeping | You cannot improve what you do not log. |
| Responsible gambling | The limits worth setting while you are calm. |
The full library runs to more than fifty pages: betting guides for method, sports betting picks hub for this sport specifically, and the glossary for anything above that needs a definition.

Every edition of this page is kept permanently. The numbers stay exactly as they were posted on the morning of the slate, which makes the archive the only honest way to check what a market looked like before the games were played rather than after.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are today's best bets?
The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.
Is there a best bet every day?
No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.
How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?
Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.
Can I see previous days' best bets?
Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
