Best Bets Today — October 21, 2026
Updated October 21, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
14 games on the Best Bets board for Wednesday, October 21, 2026 across NBA, NHL, NCAAF. 7 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Panthers @ Senators at PK — a coin flip the market cannot separate. Totals average 188.2 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.
Archived edition — market snapshot from Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see best bets today.
The Card On Oct 21
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
No graded plays were published on this page for October 21, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on October 21, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat
Card focus
NBA · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Heat -1.5 · O/U 242.5 · ML Timberwolves +100 / Heat -120
Heat is only -1.5 against Timberwolves, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 242.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Timberwolves +100 / Heat -120. Compare this against your own book before 7:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Philadelphia Flyers at Buffalo Sabres
Card focus
NHL · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Sabres -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Flyers +155 / Sabres -185
A -1.5 price on Sabres puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Flyers +155 / Sabres -185. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 7:40 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators
Card focus
NHL · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Pick'em · O/U 6 · ML Panthers -110 / Senators -108
The market cannot separate Panthers @ Senators: it is a true pick'em, which means the side you take is a judgement the price is refusing to make for you. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 6. Moneyline consensus is Panthers -110 / Senators -108. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:40 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Utah Jazz at Memphis Grizzlies
Card focus
NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Grizzlies -1 · O/U 240.5 · ML Jazz -101 / Grizzlies -118
A -1 price on Grizzlies puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 240.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Jazz -101 / Grizzlies -118. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 8:10 PM ET.
Milwaukee Bucks at Washington Wizards
NBA · Wed 7:00 PM ET · Wizards -4.5 · O/U 239.5 · ML Bucks +150 / Wizards -180
Wizards -4.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. 239.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Bucks +150 / Wizards -180. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic
NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · Magic -3.5 · O/U 235.5 · ML Hawks +120 / Magic -145
The number on Magic is -3.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The market has priced 235.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Hawks +120 / Magic -145. Prices move up to 7:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Charlotte Hornets at Brooklyn Nets
NBA · Wed 7:30 PM ET · Nets -2.5 · O/U 219 · ML Hornets +110 / Nets -130
The consensus has Nets -2.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 219. Moneyline consensus is Hornets +110 / Nets -130. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:30 PM ET and decide from there.
Chicago Bulls at Toronto Raptors
NBA · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Raptors -9.5 · O/U 236.5 · ML Bulls +336 / Raptors -441
At -9.5, Raptors is being priced to win by two scores, and a number that size shifts the interesting question from who wins to whether Bulls keeps it respectable. With the side this clear, 236.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Bulls +336 / Raptors -441. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 7:40 PM ET.
New Mexico State Aggies at Sam Houston State Bearkats
NCAAF · Wed 8:00 PM ET · Aggies -2.5 · O/U 45 · ML Aggies -140 / Bearkats +119
-2.5 on Aggies is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Bearkats to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 45, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Aggies -140 / Bearkats +119. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Prices move up to 8:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans
NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Pacers -3.5 · O/U 239.5 · ML Pacers -154 / Pelicans +130
At -3.5, Pacers is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. 239.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Pacers -154 / Pelicans +130. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 8:10 PM ET and decide from there.
Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets
NBA · Wed 8:40 PM ET · Rockets -9 · O/U 230.5 · ML Mavericks +290 / Rockets -360
Rockets -9 is a two-score expectation. Prices this long are usually more about how the favourite finishes than whether it leads. A total of 230.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Mavericks +290 / Rockets -360. Compare this against your own book before 8:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers
NBA · Wed 10:00 PM ET · Lakers -6.5 · O/U 234 · ML Warriors +180 / Lakers -220
At -6.5, Lakers is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The total sits at 234, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Warriors +180 / Lakers -220. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 10:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Phoenix Suns at Portland Trail Blazers
NBA · Wed 10:10 PM ET · Blazers -2.5 · O/U 231.5 · ML Suns +120 / Blazers -144
Blazers is only -2.5 against Suns, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 231.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Suns +120 / Blazers -144. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 10:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Clippers
NBA · Wed 10:40 PM ET · Clippers -5.5 · O/U 228.5 · ML Kings +165 / Clippers -195
The number on Clippers is -5.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The market has priced 228.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Kings +165 / Clippers -195. Prices move up to 10:40 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.
Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.
| Guide | What it settles |
|---|---|
| Expected value | The one calculation that defines a best bet. |
| Closing line value | How to judge a play before it settles. |
| Unit sizing | Why a best bet is not automatically a bigger bet. |
| Line shopping | The habit that turns a small edge into a real one. |
| Bankroll management | Surviving the run that tests everything. |
| Choosing a picks service | What to demand before you pay anyone. |
| Record keeping | You cannot improve what you do not log. |
| Responsible gambling | The limits worth setting while you are calm. |
The full library runs to more than fifty pages: betting guides for method, sports betting picks hub for this sport specifically, and the glossary for anything above that needs a definition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on October 21, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see best bets today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
