College Football Picks Today — September 5, 2026
Updated September 5, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
68 games on the College Football board for Saturday, September 5, 2026. 5 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Hilltoppers @ Pack at -1 — a coin flip the market cannot separate. Totals average 54 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.
Archived edition — market snapshot from Saturday, September 5, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see college football picks today.
The Card On Sep 5
College football is the softest major market in American betting, because a hundred and thirty teams is more than any book can price precisely and far more than the public watches.
No graded plays were published on this page for September 5, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on September 5, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Tarleton State Texans at Bowling Green Falcons
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Falcons -2 · O/U 48 · ML Texans +106 / Falcons -130
The consensus has Falcons -2, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 48. Moneyline consensus is Texans +106 / Falcons -130. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 12:00 PM ET and decide from there.
UCLA Bruins at California Golden Bears
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 10:30 PM ET · Bruins -2.5 · O/U 53.5 · ML Bruins -130 / Bears +110
The consensus has Bruins -2.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 53.5. Moneyline consensus is Bruins -130 / Bears +110. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 10:30 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Nevada Wolf Pack
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 10:30 PM ET · Hilltoppers -1 · O/U 51.5 · ML Hilltoppers -110 / Pack -109
-1 on Hilltoppers is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Pack to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 51.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Hilltoppers -110 / Pack -109. Prices move up to 10:30 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
East Carolina Pirates at Alabama Crimson Tide
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Tide -28 · O/U 52.5 · ML Pirates +1900 / Tide -5500
-28 on Tide is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 52.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Pirates +1900 / Tide -5500. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Bryant Bulldogs at Army Black Knights
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Knights -37.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Bulldogs +1550 / Knights -100000
A -37.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 50.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Bulldogs +1550 / Knights -100000. Prices move up to 12:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at West Virginia Mountaineers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Mountaineers -21 · O/U 54.5 · ML Chanticleers +950 / Mountaineers -1700
A -21 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 54.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Chanticleers +950 / Mountaineers -1700. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 12:00 PM ET.
Oregon State Beavers at Houston Cougars
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cougars -21 · O/U 50.5 · ML Beavers +910 / Cougars -1600
-21 on Cougars is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 50.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Beavers +910 / Cougars -1600. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
North Texas Mean Green at Indiana Hoosiers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Hoosiers -40.5 · O/U 56 · ML Green +1875 / Hoosiers -100000
A -40.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 56, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Green +1875 / Hoosiers -100000. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Liberty Flames at James Madison Dukes
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Dukes -6 · O/U 50.5 · ML Flames +186 / Dukes -225
Dukes -6 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 50.5. Moneyline consensus is Flames +186 / Dukes -225. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Lafayette Leopards at UConn Huskies
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Huskies -19.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Leopards +800 / Huskies -1350
A -19.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 51.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Leopards +800 / Huskies -1350. Prices move up to 12:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Miami (OH) RedHawks at Pittsburgh Panthers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Panthers -16.5 · O/U 47.5 · ML RedHawks +556 / Panthers -800
-16.5 on Panthers is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. The total is 47.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is RedHawks +556 / Panthers -800. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 12:00 PM ET and decide from there.
Ohio Bobcats at Nebraska Cornhuskers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cornhuskers -24 · O/U 46.5 · ML Bobcats +1295 / Cornhuskers -2550
A -24 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 46.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Bobcats +1295 / Cornhuskers -2550. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 12:00 PM ET.
New Hampshire Wildcats at Syracuse Orange
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Orange -34.5 · O/U 55.5 · ML Wildcats +1425 / Orange -20000
-34.5 on Orange is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 55.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Wildcats +1425 / Orange -20000. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Falcons -28.5 · O/U 57.5 · ML Dukes +2000 / Falcons -10000
A -28.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 59 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Bears +235 / Tigers -290. How To Read Today's College Football Numbers
College football's defining feature is dispersion. The gap between the best and worst teams on any Saturday is far wider than anything the NFL produces, and that changes how every number should be read.
- Big spreads are not automatically wrong. A 31-point favourite can be correctly priced, and betting dogs on principle is a losing strategy. What matters is whether the number matches the talent gap, which is what power ratings are for.
- Totals run high and move hard. Tempo differences between programmes are enormous, and a total in the 60s tells you about pace as much as quality.
- Limits are lower, so numbers are softer. Books cannot price a hundred and thirty teams as tightly as thirty-two, and the gap between two books on the same game is routinely a full point or more. This is the sport where shopping earns the most.
- Motivation is real but overused. Look-ahead spots and letdowns exist; they are also the most over-narrated angle in the sport. Treat them as a tiebreaker, never as a thesis.
Why College Numbers Are Softer Than The NFL's
| Factor | NFL | College football |
|---|---|---|
| Teams to price | 32 | 130+ |
| Games per week | ~16 | 60+ |
| Betting limits | Very high | Lower, especially off-brand games |
| Public attention | Every game | Concentrated on ~10 games |
| Book-to-book gaps | Half a point | A point or more |
| Roster turnover | Moderate | Extreme year to year |
The consequence: the profitable college work is usually in games nobody is talking about, and the least profitable is in the one game everybody is. College totals covers the market where that gap is widest.
What Makes Today's Card
Same bar as every other sport: a measurable difference between our number and the market's, larger than the cost of getting on. In college football that difference shows up more often, so the card is longer here than it is in the NFL — and the sizing is deliberately not larger, because the variance is.
Bowl season and the playoff get their own treatment on bowl games and playoff betting, since layoff and motivation genuinely dominate those spots. The record is published either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on September 5, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see college football picks today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
