College Football Picks Today: October 3, 2026
Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game on the board, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 3, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Saturday's slate features two coin-flip games at -1.5 (Virginia-Florida State, Army-Louisiana Tech), a rare pair of lines sitting directly on the key number 3 (Air Force, Iowa State), and several blowout spreads north of 20 points where the totals imply lopsided scoring splits rather than track meets. Totals range from a slate-low 43 in Michigan-Minnesota to a high of 60.5 in Alabama-Mississippi State, giving bettors a wide spread of game environments to weigh against the spreads.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
College football is the softest major market in American betting, because a hundred and thirty teams is more than any book can price precisely and far more than the public watches.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Virginia Cavaliers at Florida State Seminoles
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Cavaliers -1.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Cavaliers -120 / Seminoles +100
Virginia's -1.5 is barely half a field goal, and the -120/+100 moneyline split confirms the market sees this closer to even than the spread alone suggests. Anyone backing Florida State is effectively buying a free field goal with the plus price attached. The total at 51.5 sits in the middle of the FBS range; with the number this tight on the spread, the side market carries more information than the total, since neither side has been pushed off a true pick.
Army Black Knights at Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 7:30 PM ET · Knights -1.5 · O/U 47 · ML Knights -120 / Bulldogs +100
Army's number mirrors the Virginia line: -1.5 with a -120/+100 moneyline, meaning the market is not confident the favorite is worth even a field goal. A total of 47 is modest for this slate, suggesting books expect a grind rather than a track meet. Because the spread is this flat, the more interesting question is whether Louisiana Tech can simply keep the game under 47 rather than whether Army covers, since the margin priced in barely separates the two sides.
Fresno State Bulldogs at Washington State Cougars
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 9:30 PM ET · Cougars -1.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Bulldogs +102 / Cougars -122
Washington State's -1.5 with Fresno State sitting at +102 on the moneyline is close to a true coin flip, the thinnest kind of favorite the board offers. At 45.5, the total is the lowest on the slate, which matters more here than the side: with the spread this tight, a bettor is really choosing between a game that stays under 46 points or one that breaks that number, not between two teams separated by much on paper.
Memphis Tigers at Charlotte 49ers
NCAAF · Sat 11:00 AM ET · Tigers -20.5 · O/U 52.5 · ML Tigers -1400 / 49ers +843
Memphis -20.5 with a -1400 moneyline is about as lopsided as the board gets, and the gap between that spread and a 52.5 total tells its own story: subtract 20.5 from 52.5 and the implied split is roughly 36-16, a margin that leaves little room for Charlotte to keep this competitive. The half point on 20.5 avoids the key number at 21, so anyone on Charlotte is buying exactly half a point of backdoor cover room.
Navy Midshipmen at Air Force Falcons
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Falcons -3 · O/U 45.5 · ML Midshipmen +128 / Falcons -150
Air Force's -3 sits on the single most important number in football, where a field goal decides the bet outright. The -150/+128 moneyline shows the market pricing a real but not overwhelming edge beyond that field goal. With the total at 45.5, the side line is the sharper price here: anyone taking Navy is betting the game stays within a score, while anyone on Air Force needs more than just a field goal to separate.
Alabama Crimson Tide at Mississippi State Bulldogs
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Tide -5.5 · O/U 60.5 · ML Tide -220 / Bulldogs +180
Alabama's -5.5 is deliberately placed off the key number at 6, which keeps Mississippi State bettors from getting backdoor cover value on a push number. The -220 moneyline implies a modest but real gap. A total of 60.5 is the second-highest on the slate, and with scoring expected at that pace, the total arguably carries more signal than the spread: a shootout environment can turn a 5.5-point line into a coin flip late.
Boston College Eagles at SMU Mustangs
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Mustangs -21 · O/U 55.5 · ML Eagles +1021 / Mustangs -2000
SMU's -21 lands just past the three-touchdown mark, and the -2000 moneyline reflects a market with almost no expectation of a Boston College upset. The real number to watch is the half point built into the total at 55.5, since a 21-point favorite needs real scoring support to cover a mark that size. Anyone interested in this game is pricing Boston College's ability to simply stay inside three scores, not to win.
UCF Knights at Houston Cougars
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cougars -11 · O/U 51 · ML Knights +330 / Cougars -435
Houston's -11 moves this away from any single key number, sitting between the field-goal and two-touchdown markers that usually define backdoor cover territory. The -435 moneyline underlines a clear gap without treating it as a blowout the size of some others on this slate. At 51, the total is middle of the pack, and with the spread this specific, it is the side number, not the total, that carries the sharper read on how the market sees the matchup.
West Virginia Mountaineers at Iowa State Cyclones
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cyclones -3 · O/U 53 · ML Mountaineers +134 / Cyclones -155
Iowa State's -3 is the other game on the slate sitting directly on the key number, where the difference between a field goal and a touchdown margin decides outright winners of the bet. The -155/+134 moneyline shows a real lean toward the Cyclones beyond just the number. With the total at 53, a game that finishes on a field-goal margin pushes the spread bettor, which makes the half point unusually valuable on both sides here.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Kansas Jayhawks
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Jayhawks -20.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Raiders +862 / Jayhawks -1500
Kansas -20.5 against a +862 underdog is one of the more lopsided moneyline gaps on the board. Stack that against a total of 50.5 and the implied split works out to roughly 35-15, a margin that leaves Middle Tennessee needing significant scoring just to keep the final inside three scores. The half point above 20 means a push is impossible, so this is a clean cover-or-not proposition rather than a number bettors need to worry about landing on exactly.
Michigan Wolverines at Minnesota Golden Gophers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Wolverines -6 · O/U 43 · ML Wolverines -225 / Gophers +189
Michigan's -6 sits a half point off the most important number in football, keeping Minnesota bettors from a backdoor push if the final margin lands on 6 exactly, which this line specifically avoids. The total at 43 is the lowest on the slate, suggesting a defensive, low-scoring environment is expected. In a game this low-scoring, a single field goal or garbage-time score can flip both markets, making the under and the Minnesota side closely linked bets.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at North Carolina Tar Heels
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Irish -21 · O/U 46.5 · ML Irish -1800 / Heels +1000
Notre Dame's -21 at -1800 is the heaviest favorite on this slate, pricing an outcome the market views as close to settled. The total sitting at just 46.5, well below the spread itself, is the more notable number here: it implies a low-scoring blowout rather than a track meet, which means North Carolina's path to backdoor covering likely runs through garbage-time scoring more than any competitive stretch of the game.
Stanford Cardinal at Wake Forest Demon Deacons
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Deacons -14 · O/U 53.5 · ML Cardinal +453 / Deacons -625
Wake Forest's -14 at -625 reflects a comfortable but not extreme favorite price for a two-touchdown number. With the total at 53.5, the implied split suggests a game expected to produce points on both sides rather than a defensive stalemate, which matters for a 14-point line since it needs sustained offense to hold up rather than one big defensive score. Stanford at +453 is priced as a live underdog against the number, if not against the outcome.
Syracuse Orange at UConn Huskies
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Orange -6.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Orange -257 / Huskies +212
Syracuse's -6.5 clears the key number at 6 entirely, so there is no push risk built into this line the way there is on flatter numbers elsewhere on the slate. The -257 moneyline implies a real gap beyond the half-score margin. At 50.5, the total sits near the middle of today's range, and with the spread already past the key number, the total is arguably the more live number here since the side price looks fully baked in.
Michigan State Spartans at Wisconsin Badgers
NCAAF · Sat 12:30 PM ET · Badgers -9 · O/U 43.5 · ML Spartans +285 / Badgers -370
The books have Badgers at -9, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 43.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Spartans +285 / Badgers -370. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:30 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Vanderbilt Commodores at Georgia Bulldogs
NCAAF · Sat 12:45 PM ET · Bulldogs -25.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Commodores +1400 / Bulldogs -3200
-25.5 on Bulldogs is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 50.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Commodores +1400 / Bulldogs -3200. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:45 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Western Michigan Broncos at Buffalo Bulls
NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Broncos -13 · O/U 46 · ML Broncos -542 / Bulls +400
A -13 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 46 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Broncos -542 / Bulls +400. Prices move up to 1:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Toledo Rockets at Ball State Cardinals
NCAAF · Sat 2:00 PM ET · Rockets -21 · O/U 51.5 · ML Rockets -1425 / Cardinals +850
-21 on Rockets is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. The total is 51.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Rockets -1425 / Cardinals +850. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 2:00 PM ET and decide from there.
Akron Zips at Central Michigan Chippewas
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Chippewas -6.5 · O/U 47 · ML Zips +210 / Chippewas -255
Chippewas -6.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. The total sits at 47, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Zips +210 / Chippewas -255. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 3:30 PM ET.
Auburn Tigers at Tennessee Volunteers
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Volunteers -6.5 · O/U 54 · ML Tigers +212 / Volunteers -258
The number on Volunteers is -6.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. 54 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Tigers +212 / Volunteers -258. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Compare this against your own book before 3:30 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Bowling Green Falcons at Miami (OH) RedHawks
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · RedHawks -12 · O/U 43 · ML Falcons +390 / RedHawks -525
The books have RedHawks at -12, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 43, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Falcons +390 / RedHawks -525. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 3:30 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
California Golden Bears at UNLV Rebels
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Rebels -2.5 · O/U 53 · ML Bears +110 / Rebels -130
The consensus has Rebels -2.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 53. Moneyline consensus is Bears +110 / Rebels -130. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 3:30 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Eastern Michigan Eagles at UMass Minutemen
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Minutemen -5.5 · O/U 48.5 · ML Eagles +185 / Minutemen -225
The number on Minutemen is -5.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The total sits at 48.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Eagles +185 / Minutemen -225. Prices move up to 3:30 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Florida Gators at Missouri Tigers
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Gators -5.5 · O/U 57.5 · ML Gators -220 / Tigers +180
At -5.5, Gators is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. 57.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Gators -220 / Tigers +180. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 3:30 PM ET and decide from there.
Written reads cover the 24 games closest to a pick'em, where a half point of value is worth the most. The remaining 30 games on today's slate are on the full board above with consensus numbers.
How To Read Today's College Football Numbers
College football's defining feature is dispersion. The gap between the best and worst teams on any Saturday is far wider than anything the NFL produces, and that changes how every number should be read.
- Big spreads are not automatically wrong. A 31-point favourite can be correctly priced, and betting dogs on principle is a losing strategy. What matters is whether the number matches the talent gap, which is what power ratings are for.
- Totals run high and move hard. Tempo differences between programmes are enormous, and a total in the 60s tells you about pace as much as quality.
- Limits are lower, so numbers are softer. Books cannot price a hundred and thirty teams as tightly as thirty-two, and the gap between two books on the same game is routinely a full point or more. This is the sport where shopping earns the most.
- Motivation is real but overused. Look-ahead spots and letdowns exist; they are also the most over-narrated angle in the sport. Treat them as a tiebreaker, never as a thesis.
Why College Numbers Are Softer Than The NFL's
| Factor | NFL | College football |
|---|---|---|
| Teams to price | 32 | 130+ |
| Games per week | ~16 | 60+ |
| Betting limits | Very high | Lower, especially off-brand games |
| Public attention | Every game | Concentrated on ~10 games |
| Book-to-book gaps | Half a point | A point or more |
| Roster turnover | Moderate | Extreme year to year |
The consequence: the profitable college work is usually in games nobody is talking about, and the least profitable is in the one game everybody is. College totals covers the market where that gap is widest.
What Makes Today's Card
Same bar as every other sport: a measurable difference between our number and the market's, larger than the cost of getting on. In college football that difference shows up more often, so the card is longer here than it is in the NFL — and the sizing is deliberately not larger, because the variance is.
Bowl season and the playoff get their own treatment on bowl games and playoff betting, since layoff and motivation genuinely dominate those spots. The record is published either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are today's college football picks free?
The board, the game previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.
Is college football easier to beat than the NFL?
The numbers are softer, which is not the same as easier. A hundred and thirty teams means books price less precisely, but it also means you have to know something about programmes nobody covers. The edge is real and it is work — and it is concentrated in games the public ignores.
Should I bet big college football underdogs?
Not as a rule. Large spreads in college are frequently correct because the talent gaps genuinely are that wide. The question is always whether this number matches this mismatch, which is a power rating question rather than a philosophical one.
Why are there so many games on this board?
Because a college Saturday can carry sixty games across the FBS. Every game with a consensus number posted for today appears above, ordered by kickoff, so you can see the whole slate rather than the handful on national television.
