NBA Picks Today: October 21, 2026
Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 21, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Eleven NBA games tonight carry spreads from a near pick'em 1.5 up to Toronto's 9.5-point number against Chicago, with several lines sitting on or near contested football-style margins like 3 and 9. Totals span a wide band, from 228.5 in Clippers-Kings to 242.5 in Heat-Timberwolves, giving total bettors more separation across the slate than most of the point-spread numbers provide on their own.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
The NBA is the most schedule-driven league in American sport. Most of the edge on a given night is in knowing which teams are being asked to do something unreasonable.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Charlotte Hornets at Brooklyn Nets
Card focus
NBA · Wed 7:30 PM ET · Nets -2.5 · O/U 219 · ML Hornets +110 / Nets -130
The 2.5-point number sits off the key NBA single-possession margins of 1, 2 and 3, so there's little half-point squeeze either way on the spread. The moneyline gap, -130 on Brooklyn to +110 on Charlotte, prices in slightly more favorite confidence than the spread alone suggests. A total of 219 is on the lower end of the slate, so anyone backing it needs a slower pace than most other games tonight to hit.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat
Card focus
NBA · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Heat -1.5 · O/U 242.5 · ML Timberwolves +100 / Heat -120
A 1.5-point line keeps Miami favored by less than a single possession, with the plus-money price on Minnesota, +100, reflecting that thin margin. For the Wolves to be the side, the game simply needs to stay close throughout, since the number offers almost no cushion either way. The total of 242.5 is among the highest on the board, making the over/under the sharper discussion here than the near pick'em spread.
Utah Jazz at Memphis Grizzlies
Card focus
NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Grizzlies -1 · O/U 240.5 · ML Jazz -101 / Grizzlies -118
Memphis is favored by a single point, yet the moneyline split, -118 on the Grizzlies against -101 on Utah, is tighter than that minus-one number implies on its own. That gap is thin enough that either side of the spread comes down to who controls the final few possessions rather than margin cushion. With the total at 240.5, this projects as a faster-paced matchup, which raises the stakes on the total relative to the spread.
Milwaukee Bucks at Washington Wizards
NBA · Wed 7:00 PM ET · Wizards -4.5 · O/U 239.5 · ML Bucks +150 / Wizards -180
Washington's -4.5 is a clean half-point number, removing a push on 4 while leaving the backdoor-cover question on 3 fully alive for Milwaukee. The moneyline split, +150 on the Bucks against -180 on the Wizards, is notably wider than a 4.5-point line typically commands, suggesting the market sees more blowout risk than the spread alone reflects. A total of 239.5 leaves the over/under close to a coin flip at the number.
Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic
NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · Magic -3.5 · O/U 235.5 · ML Hawks +120 / Magic -145
Orlando's 3.5-point line clears the most contested number in NBA scoring, three, giving neither side a backdoor push to worry about. The Hawks' +120 price lines up fairly evenly with that spread, so there's no real gap between what the side and moneyline markets are saying here. At 235.5, the total sits in the middle of tonight's range, offering a plainer read than some of the more distorted numbers elsewhere on the board.
Chicago Bulls at Toronto Raptors
NBA · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Raptors -9.5 · O/U 236.5 · ML Bulls +336 / Raptors -441
Toronto's -9.5 is the largest spread on the slate, and the moneyline, -441 on the Raptors against +336 on Chicago, confirms the market expects this to be comfortably decided. The half-point on 9.5 avoids a push at 10, so the side comes down purely to whether Chicago can stay within single digits. With the total at 236.5, the total discussion is the less lopsided of the two numbers here.
Indiana Pacers at New Orleans Pelicans
NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Pacers -3.5 · O/U 239.5 · ML Pacers -154 / Pelicans +130
Indiana is favored by 3.5 on the road, clearing the three-point threshold that would otherwise invite backdoor-cover concerns. The Pacers' -154 moneyline is roughly consistent with that spread, so there's limited gap between side and moneyline value here. New Orleans at +130 needs to either win outright or lose by three or fewer to cash both markets. The 239.5 total sits toward the higher end of tonight's totals, favoring the over/under as the sharper conversation.
Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets
NBA · Wed 8:40 PM ET · Rockets -9 · O/U 230.5 · ML Mavericks +290 / Rockets -360
Houston's -9 line sits right on a number that can push, so the half-point either way matters more than usual tonight. The moneyline, -360 on the Rockets against +290 on Dallas, is wide enough to confirm the market's lean toward a decisive outcome rather than a tight single-digit finish. The total of 230.5 is among the lower marks on the slate, putting real weight on the pace question for anyone looking at the total.
Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers
NBA · Wed 10:00 PM ET · Lakers -6.5 · O/U 234 · ML Warriors +180 / Lakers -220
Los Angeles is favored by 6.5, a number that clears the two most contested margins without sitting on either one, so the side comes down to actual scoring margin rather than push risk. The -220 moneyline on the Lakers against +180 on Golden State is consistent with that spread, leaving no real gap between the two markets. At 234, the total is squarely mid-range for tonight's slate.
Phoenix Suns at Portland Trail Blazers
NBA · Wed 10:10 PM ET · Blazers -2.5 · O/U 231.5 · ML Suns +120 / Blazers -144
Portland's -2.5 keeps the line off the key single-possession number of three, so there's no backdoor-cover complication for either side here. The Suns' +120 underdog price tracks that spread closely, meaning the moneyline isn't offering meaningfully different information than the side. The total sits at 231.5, toward the lower half of tonight's range, which makes the pace question the more interesting angle on this particular matchup.
Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Clippers
NBA · Wed 10:40 PM ET · Clippers -5.5 · O/U 228.5 · ML Kings +165 / Clippers -195
The Clippers' 5.5-point line is large enough to require more than a single empty possession from Sacramento to cover, and the moneyline, -195 on Los Angeles against +165 on the Kings, reflects a similar level of favorite confidence. At 228.5, the total is the lowest on the slate, putting more emphasis on which way the total breaks than on the margin by which the Clippers are expected to win.
How To Read Tonight's NBA Numbers
Basketball spreads are efficient and basketball totals are less so, and the reason is that a total is a statement about pace as much as about quality.
- Start with possessions. Two teams that play fast produce a high total even when neither is good. The pace and totals guide covers how to convert an expected possession count into a number.
- Read the schedule before the matchup. A back-to-back on the road at the end of a five-game trip is worth points, and the market prices it — but not always enough. See back-to-backs and rest and travel.
- Expect late movement. NBA injury news lands in the hour before tip-off and moves spreads several points. A number posted this morning is provisional in a way an NFL number is not.
- Blowout risk cuts both ways. A team up thirty rests its starters, which is why large spreads and high totals interact in ways a naive model misses.
Where NBA Value Usually Hides
| Market | Efficiency | Worth attacking? |
|---|---|---|
| Game spread | Very high | Only with a schedule or news edge |
| Game total | Medium to high | Yes, on pace mismatches |
| First-half lines | Medium | Yes, when rest is the thesis |
| Player props | Low to medium | Yes — the best volume market |
| Live lines | Medium | Yes, with a plan set before tip |
| Same-game parlays | Poor value | Rarely |
Each of those has its own page — spreads, totals and props — and the props page is where a nightly slate produces the most repeatable work.
What Makes Tonight's Card
The bar is the same every night: our number on the game has to differ from the market's by more than the vig. On an eleven-game slate that produces three or four plays, not eleven, and a slate where nothing qualifies gets nothing.
Basketball's schedule structure means a disproportionate share of those plays come from spots rather than from opinions about teams — which is a good thing, because a spot is checkable in advance and an opinion is not. The record is published either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are tonight's NBA picks free?
The board, the previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.
Why do NBA lines move so late?
Because injury information does. Rest designations and load-management calls are frequently announced in the hour before tip-off, and a starter's status can be worth several points of spread. It is the main reason a morning number and a tip-off number differ more in the NBA than in any other major league.
Are NBA totals easier to beat than spreads?
They are less efficiently priced, which is not the same as easy. A total is a pace estimate, and pace is more predictable than the outcome of a close game — so a bettor with a defensible possession estimate has something to work with. Start with pace and totals.
