NBA Picks Today: October 23, 2026
Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 23, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
12 games on the NBA board for Friday, October 23, 2026. 7 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Pistons @ Heat at PK — a coin flip the market cannot separate. Totals average 232.9 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
The NBA is the most schedule-driven league in American sport. Most of the edge on a given night is in knowing which teams are being asked to do something unreasonable.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks
Card focus
NBA · Fri 4:10 PM ET · Bucks -1 · O/U 237.5 · ML Bulls -110 / Bucks -110
Bucks is only -1 against Bulls, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 237.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Bulls -110 / Bucks -110. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 4:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Orlando Magic
Card focus
NBA · Fri 7:10 PM ET · Timberwolves -1.5 · O/U 235.5 · ML Timberwolves -125 / Magic +105
Timberwolves is only -1.5 against Magic, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 235.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Timberwolves -125 / Magic +105. Compare this against your own book before 7:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat
Card focus
NBA · Fri 8:10 PM ET · Pick'em · O/U 236.5 · ML Pistons -110 / Heat -110
The market cannot separate Pistons @ Heat: it is a true pick'em, which means the side you take is a judgement the price is refusing to make for you. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 236.5. Moneyline consensus is Pistons -110 / Heat -110. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 8:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Atlanta Hawks at Charlotte Hornets
NBA · Fri 7:10 PM ET · Hawks -3 · O/U 225.5 · ML Hawks -143 / Hornets +120
A -3 price on Hawks puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 225.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Hawks -143 / Hornets +120. Prices move up to 7:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
New York Knicks at Boston Celtics
NBA · Fri 7:10 PM ET · Celtics -2.5 · O/U 223.5 · ML Knicks +112 / Celtics -132
The consensus has Celtics -2.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 223.5. Moneyline consensus is Knicks +112 / Celtics -132. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:10 PM ET and decide from there.
Dallas Mavericks at Indiana Pacers
NBA · Fri 7:10 PM ET · Pacers -6.5 · O/U 237.5 · ML Mavericks +190 / Pacers -230
Pacers -6.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. The total sits at 237.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Mavericks +190 / Pacers -230. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 7:10 PM ET.
Toronto Raptors at Washington Wizards
NBA · Fri 7:10 PM ET · Raptors -6.5 · O/U 236.5 · ML Raptors -250 / Wizards +207
At -6.5, Raptors is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The market has priced 236.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Raptors -250 / Wizards +207. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 7:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs
NBA · Fri 9:40 PM ET · Spurs -5.5 · O/U 228 · ML Rockets +171 / Spurs -205
The number on Spurs is -5.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The total sits at 228, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Rockets +171 / Spurs -205. Prices move up to 9:40 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
New Orleans Pelicans at Utah Jazz
NBA · Fri 9:40 PM ET · Jazz -2.5 · O/U 238.5 · ML Pelicans +111 / Jazz -134
Jazz is only -2.5 against Pelicans, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 238.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Pelicans +111 / Jazz -134. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 9:40 PM ET and decide from there.
Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors
NBA · Fri 10:10 PM ET · Warriors -3 · O/U 234.5 · ML Grizzlies +125 / Warriors -150
A -3 price on Warriors puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 234.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Grizzlies +125 / Warriors -150. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 10:10 PM ET.
Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers
NBA · Fri 10:10 PM ET · Lakers -9.5 · O/U 228.5 · ML Clippers +300 / Lakers -380
Lakers -9.5 is a two-score expectation. Prices this long are usually more about how the favourite finishes than whether it leads. A total of 228.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Clippers +300 / Lakers -380. Compare this against your own book before 10:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Portland Trail Blazers at Sacramento Kings
NBA · Fri 10:10 PM ET · Blazers -8 · O/U 232.5 · ML Blazers -320 / Kings +260
The books have Blazers at -8, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 232.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Blazers -320 / Kings +260. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 10:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
How To Read Tonight's NBA Numbers
Basketball spreads are efficient and basketball totals are less so, and the reason is that a total is a statement about pace as much as about quality.
- Start with possessions. Two teams that play fast produce a high total even when neither is good. The pace and totals guide covers how to convert an expected possession count into a number.
- Read the schedule before the matchup. A back-to-back on the road at the end of a five-game trip is worth points, and the market prices it — but not always enough. See back-to-backs and rest and travel.
- Expect late movement. NBA injury news lands in the hour before tip-off and moves spreads several points. A number posted this morning is provisional in a way an NFL number is not.
- Blowout risk cuts both ways. A team up thirty rests its starters, which is why large spreads and high totals interact in ways a naive model misses.
Where NBA Value Usually Hides
| Market | Efficiency | Worth attacking? |
|---|---|---|
| Game spread | Very high | Only with a schedule or news edge |
| Game total | Medium to high | Yes, on pace mismatches |
| First-half lines | Medium | Yes, when rest is the thesis |
| Player props | Low to medium | Yes — the best volume market |
| Live lines | Medium | Yes, with a plan set before tip |
| Same-game parlays | Poor value | Rarely |
Each of those has its own page — spreads, totals and props — and the props page is where a nightly slate produces the most repeatable work.
What Makes Tonight's Card
The bar is the same every night: our number on the game has to differ from the market's by more than the vig. On an eleven-game slate that produces three or four plays, not eleven, and a slate where nothing qualifies gets nothing.
Basketball's schedule structure means a disproportionate share of those plays come from spots rather than from opinions about teams — which is a good thing, because a spot is checkable in advance and an opinion is not. The record is published either way.

Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.
| Guide | What it settles |
|---|---|
| NBA pace and totals | Possessions, not points, drive a total. |
| NBA back-to-backs | What a second night is actually worth. |
| Rest and travel spots | The schedule edge the market underprices. |
| Injury report betting | How late news reprices a basketball game. |
| Point spreads explained | What the number on the board represents. |
| Player props explained | The softest market in basketball. |
| Live betting basics | Why in-game pricing lags in the NBA. |
| Closing line value | The only honest short-term scorecard. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Are tonight's NBA picks free?
The board, the previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.
Why do NBA lines move so late?
Because injury information does. Rest designations and load-management calls are frequently announced in the hour before tip-off, and a starter's status can be worth several points of spread. It is the main reason a morning number and a tip-off number differ more in the NBA than in any other major league.
Are NBA totals easier to beat than spreads?
They are less efficiently priced, which is not the same as easy. A total is a pace estimate, and pace is more predictable than the outcome of a close game — so a bettor with a defensible possession estimate has something to work with. Start with pace and totals.
