Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.

Updated September 20, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

29 games on the Best Bets board for Sunday, September 20, 2026 across NFL, MLB. 18 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Phillies @ Mets at -1.5 — a one-score game the market leans in only slightly. Totals average 25.8 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:11 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Phillies -171 / Mets +145

Phillies is only -1.5 against Mets, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 8 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Phillies -171 / Mets +145. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 1:11 PM ET and decide from there.

Kansas City Royals at Pittsburgh Pirates

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:36 PM ET · Royals -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Royals -120 / Pirates +105

A -1.5 price on Royals puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Royals -120 / Pirates +105. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:36 PM ET.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:40 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Sox +126 / Rays -148

The consensus has Rays -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Sox +126 / Rays -148. Compare this against your own book before 1:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Athletics at Cleveland Guardians

Card focus

MLB · Sun 1:41 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Athletics +195 / Guardians -230

-1.5 on Guardians is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Athletics to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 7.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Athletics +195 / Guardians -230. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 1:41 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Panthers -2.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Panthers -150 / Falcons +126

Panthers is only -2.5 against Falcons, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 43.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Panthers -150 / Falcons +126. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 1:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

New Orleans Saints at Baltimore Ravens

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Ravens -8.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Saints +325 / Ravens -420

Ravens -8.5 is a two-score expectation. Prices this long are usually more about how the favourite finishes than whether it leads. A total of 45.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Saints +325 / Ravens -420. Prices move up to 1:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bears -4.5 · O/U 47.5 · ML Vikings +180 / Bears -215

At -4.5, Bears is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 47.5. Moneyline consensus is Vikings +180 / Bears -215. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 1:00 PM ET and decide from there.

Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Texans -2.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Bengals +125 / Texans -148

-2.5 on Texans is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Bengals to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 45.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Bengals +125 / Texans -148. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:00 PM ET.

Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Buccaneers -8 · O/U 41.5 · ML Browns +330 / Buccaneers -435

Buccaneers -8 is a two-score expectation. Prices this long are usually more about how the favourite finishes than whether it leads. A total of 41.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Browns +330 / Buccaneers -435. Compare this against your own book before 1:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Green Bay Packers at New York Jets

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Packers -3.5 · O/U 44.5 · ML Packers -175 / Jets +150

At -3.5, Packers is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The market has priced 44.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Packers -175 / Jets +150. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 1:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Patriots -5.5 · O/U 41.5 · ML Steelers +200 / Patriots -238

Patriots -5.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 41.5. Moneyline consensus is Steelers +200 / Patriots -238. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 1:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Philadelphia Eagles at Tennessee Titans

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Eagles -7 · O/U 39.5 · ML Eagles -335 / Titans +270

The number on Eagles is -7, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The total sits at 39.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Eagles -335 / Titans +270. Seven is the second-largest cluster in football margins, so a half point either side of this number is worth real win probability. Prices move up to 1:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds

MLB · Sun 1:41 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 10 · ML Cubs -158 / Reds +134

Cubs is only -1.5 against Reds, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 10 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Cubs -158 / Reds +134. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 1:41 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Atlanta Braves at Houston Astros

MLB · Sun 2:11 PM ET · Astros -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Braves +118 / Astros -140

A -1.5 price on Astros puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Braves +118 / Astros -140. Prices move up to 2:11 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox

MLB · Sun 2:11 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Tigers +100 / Sox -119

The consensus has Sox -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8. Moneyline consensus is Tigers +100 / Sox -119. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 2:11 PM ET and decide from there.

The total sits at 9, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Nationals +123 / Cardinals -145. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 2:16 PM ET.

Compare this against your own book before 2:36 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Seattle Mariners at Colorado Rockies

MLB · Sun 3:11 PM ET · Mariners -1.5 · O/U 11 · ML Mariners -162 / Rockies +137

A -1.5 price on Mariners puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 11 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Mariners -162 / Rockies +137. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 3:11 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos

NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Broncos -2.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Jaguars +129 / Broncos -152

The total sits at 43.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Raiders +245 / Chargers -310. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. Prices move up to 4:05 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

What Makes A Play A Best Bet

The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.

  1. A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
  2. A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
  3. A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
  4. A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
What this rules out

Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.

How To Compare Prices Across Sports

The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.

Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.

The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.

What This Page Is Not

It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.

It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are today's best bets?

The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.

Is there a best bet every day?

No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.

How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?

Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.

Can I see previous days' best bets?

Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
