Best Bets Today — September 26, 2026
Updated September 26, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
78 games on the Best Bets board for Saturday, September 26, 2026 across NCAAF, MLB. 20 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Mets @ Nationals at -1.5 — a one-score game the market leans in only slightly. Totals average 45.5 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.
Archived edition — market snapshot from Saturday, September 26, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see best bets today.
The Card On Sep 26
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
No graded plays were published on this page for September 26, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on September 26, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
New York Mets at Washington Nationals
Card focus
MLB · Sat 12:36 PM ET · Mets -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Mets -132 / Nationals +113
-1.5 on Mets is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Nationals to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 8.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Mets -132 / Nationals +113. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:36 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Detroit Tigers
Card focus
MLB · Sat 1:11 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Pirates -105 / Tigers -115
The consensus has Pirates -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Pirates -105 / Tigers -115. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 1:11 PM ET and decide from there.
UCLA Bruins at Maryland Terrapins
Card focus
NCAAF · Sat 1:30 PM ET · Bruins -1.5 · O/U 56.5 · ML Bruins -120 / Terrapins +100
-1.5 on Bruins is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Terrapins to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 56.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Bruins -120 / Terrapins +100. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:30 PM ET.
Cincinnati Reds at Toronto Blue Jays
Card focus
MLB · Sat 3:08 PM ET · Jays -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Reds +138 / Jays -164
Jays is only -1.5 against Reds, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 8 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Reds +138 / Jays -164. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 3:08 PM ET and decide from there.
UNLV Rebels at Akron Zips
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Rebels -13.5 · O/U 53 · ML Rebels -550 / Zips +400
-13.5 on Rebels is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 53 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Rebels -550 / Zips +400. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Ball State Cardinals at Kent State Golden Flashes
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Flashes -3 · O/U 51 · ML Cardinals +130 / Flashes -157
A -3 price on Flashes puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 51 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals +130 / Flashes -157. The number is parked on 3, the single most common NFL and college margin, so buying or selling that half point matters more here than anywhere else on the board. Prices move up to 12:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Colorado Buffaloes at Baylor Bears
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Bears -9.5 · O/U 55.5 · ML Buffaloes +293 / Bears -377
The books have Bears at -9.5, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 55.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Buffaloes +293 / Bears -377. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 12:00 PM ET and decide from there.
Virginia Tech Hokies at Boston College Eagles
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Hokies -14 · O/U 46.5 · ML Hokies -625 / Eagles +450
A -14 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 46.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Hokies -625 / Eagles +450. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 12:00 PM ET.
Bucknell Bison at Pittsburgh Panthers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Panthers -53 · O/U 63.5
-53 on Panthers is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 63.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Colorado State Rams at UTSA Roadrunners
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Roadrunners -14 · O/U 57.5 · ML Rams +430 / Roadrunners -600
A -14 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 57.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Rams +430 / Roadrunners -600. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Illinois Fighting Illini at Ohio State Buckeyes
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Buckeyes -26 · O/U 54.5 · ML Illini +1600 / Buckeyes -5000
-26 on Buckeyes is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 54.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Illini +1600 / Buckeyes -5000. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Louisville Cardinals
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Cardinals -12.5 · O/U 57.5 · ML Deacons +393 / Cardinals -525
A -12.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 57.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Deacons +393 / Cardinals -525. Prices move up to 12:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Sam Houston State Bearkats at Texas Tech Red Raiders
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Raiders -34.5 · O/U 56 · ML Bearkats +4000 / Raiders -27500
-34.5 on Raiders is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. The total is 56, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Bearkats +4000 / Raiders -27500. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 12:00 PM ET and decide from there.
San Diego State Aztecs at Toledo Rockets
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Rockets -3 · O/U 51.5 · ML Aztecs +122 / Rockets -147
A -3 price on Rockets puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 51.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Aztecs +122 / Rockets -147. The number is parked on 3, the single most common NFL and college margin, so buying or selling that half point matters more here than anywhere else on the board. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 12:00 PM ET.
Texas Longhorns at Tennessee Volunteers
NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Longhorns -5.5 · O/U 55 · ML Longhorns -205 / Volunteers +170
The number on Longhorns is -5.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 55. Moneyline consensus is Longhorns -205 / Volunteers +170. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
South Alabama Jaguars at Kentucky Wildcats
NCAAF · Sat 12:45 PM ET · Wildcats -20.5 · O/U 54 · ML Jaguars +874 / Wildcats -1500
-20.5 on Wildcats is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 54 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Jaguars +874 / Wildcats -1500. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:45 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Lindenwood Lions at Eastern Michigan Eagles
NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Eagles -25.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Lions +1200 / Eagles -4000
A -25.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 50.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Lions +1200 / Eagles -4000. Prices move up to 1:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Northern Illinois Huskies at Georgia State Panthers
NCAAF · Sat 2:00 PM ET · Panthers -10.5 · O/U 56.5 · ML Huskies +316 / Panthers -400
Panthers -10.5 is a two-score expectation. Prices this long are usually more about how the favourite finishes than whether it leads. A total of 56.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Huskies +316 / Panthers -400. Compare this against your own book before 2:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Purdue Boilermakers
NCAAF · Sat 2:00 PM ET · Irish -27.5 · O/U 57.5 · ML Irish -5024 / Boilermakers +1600
A -27.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 57.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Irish -5024 / Boilermakers +1600. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 2:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

-45.5 on Seminoles is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 63 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 3:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at Wyoming Cowboys
NCAAF · Sat 3:00 PM ET · Warriors -2.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Warriors -130 / Cowboys +110
-2.5 on Warriors is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Cowboys to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 43.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Warriors -130 / Cowboys +110. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Prices move up to 3:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Boise State Broncos at Western Michigan Broncos
NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Broncos -7.5 · O/U 50 · ML Broncos -290 / Broncos +236
At -7.5, Broncos is being priced to win by two scores, and a number that size shifts the interesting question from who wins to whether Broncos keeps it respectable. With the side this clear, 50 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Broncos -290 / Broncos +236. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.
Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.
| Guide | What it settles |
|---|---|
| Expected value | The one calculation that defines a best bet. |
| Closing line value | How to judge a play before it settles. |
| Unit sizing | Why a best bet is not automatically a bigger bet. |
| Line shopping | The habit that turns a small edge into a real one. |
| Bankroll management | Surviving the run that tests everything. |
| Choosing a picks service | What to demand before you pay anyone. |
| Record keeping | You cannot improve what you do not log. |
| Responsible gambling | The limits worth setting while you are calm. |
The full library runs to more than fifty pages: betting guides for method, sports betting picks hub for this sport specifically, and the glossary for anything above that needs a definition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on September 26, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see best bets today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
