Best Bets Today: September 27, 2026
Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.
Updated September 27, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Sunday's board mixes a full NFL slate with four MLB series finales. Most NFL sides cluster near the key numbers of 3 and 7, which changes how much a half point is worth on either side. The baseball board leans on standard 1.5 run lines with totals in the 7 to 8.5 range, where the moneyline gap often tells you more about true price than the spread does.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
Card focus
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Texans -1.5 · O/U 42.5 · ML Texans -125 / Colts +105
Houston at -1.5 with a -125 moneyline is about as thin as a favorite gets — the market barely prefers Houston to win outright, let alone cover. Indianapolis only needs to avoid a multi-score loss for the plus number to cash. At 42.5, the total sits below most current NFL norms, so the side is the more relevant number here; there is little cushion built in for either team to separate.
Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees
Card focus
MLB · Sun 1:05 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Orioles +114 / Yankees -132
New York at -1.5 on the run line with a -132 moneyline is a common gap for a moderate favorite — the Yankees are priced to win by more than one run more often than not, but not by a wide margin. Baltimore at +114 covers if it either wins outright or loses by exactly one. With the total at 7.5, a low-scoring game keeps that one-run outcome very much in play.
New York Mets at Washington Nationals
Card focus
MLB · Sun 1:05 PM ET · Mets -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Mets -109 / Nationals -107
The Mets sit at -1.5 on the run line but the moneyline is essentially even, -109 to -107. That combination says the market expects a coin-flip winner where New York's edge only shows up if the margin stretches past one run. Washington's number is priced for a one-run loss or a win, not a blowout. At 8.5, the total leaves enough scoring room that either side of that margin question is live.
Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Card focus
NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Vikings -1 · O/U 42.5 · ML Vikings -120 / Buccaneers +100
Minnesota at -1 with a -120 moneyline is close to a true pick'em, sitting well shy of the key number 3. Tampa Bay at even money needs almost nothing to go right to cover, and the field-goal argument barely applies at this spread. The 42.5 total is middling for the league; with the side this flat, it is the more textured number to work with here.
Los Angeles Chargers at Buffalo Bills
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bills -7.5 · O/U 50 · ML Chargers +275 / Bills -340
Buffalo -7.5 sits just off the touchdown number, meaning a Bills win by exactly 7 pushes the field-goal argument but not the cover — the half point matters more here than at most spreads. The -340 moneyline reflects a substantial gap in expected outcome, and Los Angeles at +275 needs to keep the margin inside one score. At 50, the total is the highest on the slate, worth watching alongside that number.
Carolina Panthers at Cleveland Browns
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Panthers -2 · O/U 42.5 · ML Panthers -130 / Browns +110
Carolina -2 with a -130 moneyline is a modest favorite price, again well under the key number 3. Cleveland at +110 covers with almost any competitive result, including a narrow loss. The total at 42.5 is unremarkable for the league, which puts the emphasis on the side — specifically whether Carolina's edge is closer to a field goal or closer to nothing at all.
Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bengals -3.5 · O/U 42.5 · ML Bengals -184 / Steelers +155
Cincinnati -3.5 sits just above the key number 3, so a 3-point Bengals win pushes the field-goal scenario in Pittsburgh's favor on the moneyline but not against the spread. The -184 price is a meaningful gap for a half-point favorite. At 42.5 total, scoring projects as average; the half point over the key number is the detail worth weighing before touching the side.
New York Jets at Detroit Lions
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Lions -6.5 · O/U 48 · ML Jets +250 / Lions -315
Detroit -6.5 keeps the Lions off the 7 by half a point, which matters since a 7-point margin is one of the most common in the league. The -315 moneyline signals a wide expected gap. New York at +250 needs to stay within one score. The total at 48 is on the higher end of the slate, giving the over/under a real case alongside the spread.
New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Jaguars -3 · O/U 46 · ML Patriots +130 / Jaguars -155
Jacksonville -3 sits directly on the most common margin in football, which is why the moneyline gap, -155 to +130, is wider than the spread alone suggests — the market is pricing in real value for either side of exactly 3 points. New England covers with a field goal to spare or better. The 46 total is moderate, leaving the side as the sharper conversation this week.
Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Chiefs -10 · O/U 45.5 · ML Chiefs -670 / Dolphins +488
Kansas City -10 with a -670 moneyline is the most lopsided price on the board, implying an expected margin well clear of two scores. Miami at +488 needs to keep this inside 10, which is a real ask against that gap. The 45.5 total is average for the league, so the side carries essentially all the information here.
Tennessee Titans at New York Giants
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Giants -2.5 · O/U 37.5 · ML Titans +115 / Giants -135
New York -2.5 with a -135 moneyline is a moderate favorite number that avoids the key numbers entirely, so there is no half-point argument to make either way. Tennessee at +115 covers with a win or a one-score loss. The total at 37.5 is one of the lowest on the slate, which makes the under/over arguably the more interesting number in this particular game.
Seattle Seahawks at Washington Commanders
NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Seahawks -8.5 · O/U 40 · ML Seahawks -395 / Commanders +303
Seattle -8.5 clears the touchdown number by a point and a half, and the -395 moneyline backs up an expectation of a comfortable margin rather than a coin flip decided by one score. Washington at +303 needs to keep this under two scores. At 40, the total is low for the league, making the scoring total worth as much attention as the lopsided side.
Tampa Bay Rays at Philadelphia Phillies
MLB · Sun 3:05 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Rays +125 / Phillies -147
Philadelphia -1.5 on the run line with a -147 moneyline is a solid but not overwhelming favorite price — the Phillies are expected to win by more than a run in a clear majority of outcomes, but Tampa Bay at +125 stays live on any outright win or one-run loss. The total at 7, the lowest on the baseball board today, suggests a tighter, lower-scoring game where that one-run margin is squarely in play.
Cincinnati Reds at Toronto Blue Jays
MLB · Sun 3:08 PM ET · Jays -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Reds +150 / Jays -178
Toronto -1.5 with a -178 moneyline is a wider gap than the Phillies' game above at the same run line, meaning the market gives the Blue Jays a stronger outright edge, not just a run-margin one. Cincinnati at +150 needs a win or a one-run finish. At 8.5, the total is the highest among today's baseball games, which adds some weight to the over side of that number.
Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins
MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Braves -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Braves -109 / Marlins -108
A -1.5 price on Braves puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 8.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Braves -109 / Marlins -108. Prices move up to 3:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Colorado Rockies at Chicago White Sox
MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Rockies +172 / Sox -205
The consensus has Sox -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Rockies +172 / Sox -205. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 3:10 PM ET and decide from there.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Detroit Tigers
MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Pirates -129 / Tigers +111
-1.5 on Pirates is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Tigers to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 8, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Pirates -129 / Tigers +111. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 3:10 PM ET.
Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners
MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Mariners -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Angels +154 / Mariners -182
Mariners is only -1.5 against Angels, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Angels +154 / Mariners -182. Compare this against your own book before 3:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers
MLB · Sun 3:10 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Cardinals +205 / Brewers -245
A -1.5 price on Brewers puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 7 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals +205 / Brewers -245. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 3:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals
MLB · Sun 3:11 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Guardians -145 / Royals +123
The consensus has Guardians -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Guardians -145 / Royals +123. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 3:11 PM ET rather than assuming they match.
Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins
MLB · Sun 3:11 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Rangers -124 / Twins +106
-1.5 on Rangers is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Twins to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 8.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Rangers -124 / Twins +106. Prices move up to 3:11 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.
Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers
NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · 49ers -7.5 · O/U 48 · ML Cardinals +290 / 49ers -375
The books have 49ers at -7.5, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 48, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals +290 / 49ers -375. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 4:05 PM ET and decide from there.
Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys
NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Ravens -3.5 · O/U 53.5 · ML Ravens -180 / Cowboys +153
The number on Ravens is -3.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 53.5. Moneyline consensus is Ravens -180 / Cowboys +153. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Compare this against your own book before 4:25 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.
Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints
NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Saints -3.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Raiders +152 / Saints -180
At -3.5, Saints is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The total sits at 43.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Raiders +152 / Saints -180. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 4:25 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.
Written reads cover the 24 games closest to a pick'em, where a half point of value is worth the most. The remaining 1 game on today's slate is on the full board above with consensus numbers.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.
Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
Before You Bet: The Guides Behind This Card
Nothing on this page beats knowing the mechanics cold. These are the evergreen guides the analysis above assumes, and they do not change when the slate does.
| Guide | What it settles |
|---|---|
| Expected value | The one calculation that defines a best bet. |
| Closing line value | How to judge a play before it settles. |
| Unit sizing | Why a best bet is not automatically a bigger bet. |
| Line shopping | The habit that turns a small edge into a real one. |

| Record keeping | You cannot improve what you do not log. |
| Responsible gambling | The limits worth setting while you are calm. |
The full library runs to more than fifty pages: betting guides for method, sports betting picks hub for this sport specifically, and the glossary for anything above that needs a definition.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are today's best bets?
The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.
Is there a best bet every day?
No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.
How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?
Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.
Can I see previous days' best bets?
Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
