Best Bets Today: October 27, 2026

Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.

Updated October 27, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

18 games on the Best Bets board for Tuesday, October 27, 2026 across NCAAF, NHL, NBA, MLB. 14 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Hens @ Hilltoppers at -1.5 — a one-score game the market leans in only slightly. Totals average 60.4 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Delaware Blue Hens at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Card focus

NCAAF · Tue 7:00 PM ET · Hens -1.5 · O/U 57.5 · ML Hens -115 / Hilltoppers -105

Hens is only -1.5 against Hilltoppers, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 57.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Hens -115 / Hilltoppers -105. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers

Card focus

NHL · Tue 7:10 PM ET · Jackets -1.5 · O/U 5.5 · ML Jackets -125 / Flyers +105

A -1.5 price on Jackets puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 5.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Jackets -125 / Flyers +105. Prices move up to 7:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Milwaukee Brewers at Tampa Bay Rays

Card focus

MLB · Tue 8:00 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Brewers -140 / Rays +119

Brewers is only -1.5 against Rays, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Brewers -140 / Rays +119. Compare this against your own book before 8:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes

Card focus

NHL · Tue 8:08 PM ET · Hurricanes -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Bruins +159 / Hurricanes -190

A -1.5 price on Hurricanes puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Bruins +159 / Hurricanes -190. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 8:08 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Brooklyn Nets at Boston Celtics

NBA · Tue 7:40 PM ET · Celtics -11.5 · O/U 221 · ML Nets +430 / Celtics -575

The books have Celtics at -11.5, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 221, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Nets +430 / Celtics -575. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:40 PM ET and decide from there.

Sam Houston State Bearkats at Missouri State Bears

NCAAF · Tue 8:00 PM ET · Bears -5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Bearkats +174 / Bears -205

Bears -5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. The total sits at 50.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Bearkats +174 / Bears -205. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 8:00 PM ET.

New Jersey Devils at Dallas Stars

NHL · Tue 8:08 PM ET · Stars -1.5 · O/U 5.5 · ML Devils +105 / Stars -125

The consensus has Stars -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 5.5. Moneyline consensus is Devils +105 / Stars -125. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 8:08 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Florida Panthers at Winnipeg Jets

NHL · Tue 8:09 PM ET · Panthers -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Panthers -130 / Jets +110

-1.5 on Panthers is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Jets to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 6, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Panthers -130 / Jets +110. Prices move up to 8:09 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks

NBA · Tue 8:10 PM ET · Knicks -4 · O/U 218.5 · ML Pistons +140 / Knicks -165

At -4, Knicks is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. 218.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Pistons +140 / Knicks -165. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 8:10 PM ET and decide from there.

Sacramento Kings at San Antonio Spurs

NBA · Tue 8:10 PM ET · Spurs -18 · O/U 230.5 · ML Kings +980 / Spurs -1800

A -18 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 230.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Kings +980 / Spurs -1800. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 8:10 PM ET.

Montréal Canadiens at St Louis Blues

NHL · Tue 8:10 PM ET · Blues -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Canadiens +100 / Blues -120

The consensus has Blues -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 6. Moneyline consensus is Canadiens +100 / Blues -120. Compare this against your own book before 8:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

New York Islanders at Nashville Predators

NHL · Tue 8:10 PM ET · Predators -1.5 · O/U 5.5 · ML Islanders +101 / Predators -122

-1.5 on Predators is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Islanders to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 5.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Islanders +101 / Predators -122. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 8:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks

NHL · Tue 8:11 PM ET · Kings -1.5 · O/U 5.5 · ML Kings -120 / Blackhawks +100

Kings is only -1.5 against Blackhawks, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 5.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Kings -120 / Blackhawks +100. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 8:11 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Minnesota Wild at Utah Mammoth

NHL · Tue 9:10 PM ET · Mammoth -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Wild +108 / Mammoth -129

A -1.5 price on Mammoth puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Wild +108 / Mammoth -129. Prices move up to 9:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks

NHL · Tue 10:10 PM ET · Ducks -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Canucks +174 / Ducks -208

The consensus has Ducks -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 6.5. Moneyline consensus is Canucks +174 / Ducks -208. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 10:10 PM ET and decide from there.

Ottawa Senators at Vegas Golden Knights

NHL · Tue 10:10 PM ET · Knights -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Senators +131 / Knights -155

-1.5 on Knights is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Senators to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 6.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Senators +131 / Knights -155. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 10:10 PM ET.

Buffalo Sabres at San Jose Sharks

NHL · Tue 10:40 PM ET · Sabres -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Sabres -140 / Sharks +116

Sabres is only -1.5 against Sharks, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 6.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Sabres -140 / Sharks +116. Compare this against your own book before 10:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers

NBA · Tue 11:10 PM ET · Lakers -3 · O/U 236.5 · ML Blazers +122 / Lakers -145

A -3 price on Lakers puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 236.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Blazers +122 / Lakers -145. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 11:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

What Makes A Play A Best Bet

The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.

  1. A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
  2. A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
  3. A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
  4. A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
What this rules out

Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.

How To Compare Prices Across Sports

The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.

Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.

The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.

What This Page Is Not

It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.

It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are today's best bets?

The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.

Is there a best bet every day?

No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.

How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?

Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.

Can I see previous days' best bets?

Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
