College Football Picks Today: September 12, 2026

Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game on the board, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.

Updated September 12, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

A wide range of numbers on this Saturday slate, from a true pick'em in Minneapolis to three spreads north of 35 involving Group of Five or FCS opponents. The interesting markets sit in the middle: games like Ohio State-Texas, Oklahoma-Michigan and App State-East Carolina where the spread sits near a key number and the total is modest enough that a single defensive stop or extra possession changes which side of the number is live.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

College football is the softest major market in American betting, because a hundred and thirty teams is more than any book can price precisely and far more than the public watches.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

The games today's card is built around: the closest numbers on the board, where a half point is worth the most.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Mississippi State Bulldogs at Minnesota Golden Gophers

Card focus

NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Pick'em · O/U 54.5 · ML Bulldogs -110 / Gophers -110

A true pick'em with matching -110 prices on both sides means the market sees no edge from either sideline. At 54.5, the total sits above the median for a game with no clear favorite, which usually signals two offenses expected to keep pace with each other rather than a low-scoring stalemate. Anyone taking either side at even money is betting on a specific matchup detail, not on the number itself, since the number offers no lean.

UTSA Roadrunners at Texas State Bobcats

Card focus

NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Bobcats -1.5 · O/U 66 · ML Roadrunners +105 / Bobcats -125

Texas State -1.5 is barely a favorite in name, and the -125 moneyline reflects that this is closer to even money than the spread suggests. The 66 total is the story here: that number requires sustained scoring from both sides to cash over, and a favorite that struggles early likely means the under gets there instead. The side bet is a coin flip; the total carries the real signal about how this one is expected to play.

Ohio State Buckeyes at Texas Longhorns

Card focus

NCAAF · Sat 7:30 PM ET · Longhorns -1.5 · O/U 49.5 · ML Buckeyes +104 / Longhorns -125

Texas -1.5 with a 104 price on Ohio State means the market is essentially flat on the spread and pricing this as a true toss-up decided by a possession or two. The 49.5 total is low for two programs with this kind of national profile, suggesting the market expects a field-position and turnover battle rather than an track meet. With the number this tight, the total is arguably the sharper read on how the game script unfolds.

Appalachian State Mountaineers at East Carolina Pirates

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Pirates -6.5 · O/U 56 · ML Mountaineers +200 / Pirates -245

East Carolina -6.5 sits just under the touchdown, which means backers of the favorite need a clean scoring drive plus a stop, not just one big play, to cover. The half point matters here: at 6.5 rather than 7, a Pirates win by exactly seven cashes the spread outright rather than pushing. At 56, the total is high enough that a shootout would likely carry the favorite past the number as well as over.

Arizona State Sun Devils at Texas A&M Aggies

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Aggies -14.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Devils +500 / Aggies -700

Texas A&M -14.5 with a 50.5 total tells a specific story: the market expects the Aggies to win by two scores or more but does not expect a track meet to get there. That combination usually means backers of Arizona State need the Aggies to be inefficient in the red zone, not just held to modest yardage, since the total already assumes a grinding pace. The -700 moneyline leaves little margin for anything but a comfortable A&M win.

South Florida Bulls at Army Black Knights

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Knights -3.5 · O/U 46 · ML Bulls +142 / Knights -170

Army -3.5 keeps the spread off the key number of 3, so a field-goal margin decides only the moneyline, not the spread. Backers of South Florida just need one late scoring drive to erase the number outright. The 46 total is on the lower end for this slate, consistent with the -170 favorite being viewed as a possession-control team rather than a big scoring one, which puts real weight on the under relative to the side.

East Tennessee State Buccaneers at North Carolina Tar Heels

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Heels -35.5 · O/U 54.5 · ML Buccaneers +4500 / Heels -40000

A 35.5-point spread with a -40000 moneyline leaves essentially nothing for the side market to debate; this is priced as a total mismatch. The more relevant number is the 54.5 total, since a favorite winning by five touchdowns can still land on either side of it depending on how much scoring the underdog manages to generate against a heavy favorite that may not need to press in the second half.

Gardner-Webb Runnin Bulldogs at Liberty Flames

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Flames -27.5 · O/U 55.5 · ML Bulldogs +1550 / Flames -4250

Liberty -27.5 against a -4250 moneyline again makes the spread the only real market here. Covering by more than four touchdowns requires the favorite to keep scoring into the second half rather than manage the clock once the outcome is settled. The 55.5 total leaves room for that kind of margin without needing an unusually high-scoring game, which is worth weighing against how often lopsided favorites ease off once the result is no longer in question.

Howard Bison at Indiana Hoosiers

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Hoosiers -57.5 · O/U 66.5

A 57.5-point spread with no moneyline posted tells you the side market has essentially been abandoned by the books surveyed. The 66.5 total is the only number offering a real decision: it requires the favorite alone to produce significant scoring across four quarters, since an outmatched opponent's own scoring contribution to the total is expected to be minimal. That makes the total the entire conversation on this game.

Wagner Seahawks at James Madison Dukes

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Dukes -45.5 · O/U 56

With the spread at 45.5 and no moneyline listed, this line exists mainly to set a number rather than to invite a competitive bet on either side. The 56 total again becomes the more useful figure, since covering a spread this large typically means the favorite needs to keep an offense running through the whole game, which cuts both ways for total bettors depending on how much the trailing team is able to add.

Washington State Cougars at Kansas State Wildcats

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Wildcats -17.5 · O/U 49 · ML Cougars +650 / Wildcats -1000

Kansas State -17.5 with a -1000 moneyline is priced as a comfortable, not a blowout-level, favorite relative to some others on this slate. Covering requires roughly two and a half scores of separation, which is a meaningful margin against a total set at only 49. That combination suggests the market expects the favorite's advantage to come from limiting the opponent's scoring chances more than from an especially explosive offensive day.

Wofford Terriers at Kent State Golden Flashes

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Flashes -10.5 · O/U 47 · ML Terriers +360 / Flashes -500

Kent State -10.5 sits comfortably clear of the key numbers at 3 and 7, so half-point value is not really in play here. The -500 price says the market is confident in the favorite winning outright but only moderately confident in the double-digit cover. At 47, the total is on the low side, which argues for the favorite's margin coming from a defensive edge rather than from piling up points against a lesser opponent.

Oklahoma Sooners at Michigan Wolverines

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Sooners -4.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Sooners -210 / Wolverines +175

Oklahoma -4.5 against a 43.5 total is one of the tighter, lower-scoring numbers on the slate, and the gap between the -210 moneyline and the modest spread suggests the market expects a game decided by field position and red-zone efficiency rather than one blown open early. Michigan backers need only a single defensive or special-teams play to flip the spread outright, and with the total this low, that same kind of play would carry real weight on the under as well.

Oregon Ducks at Oklahoma State Cowboys

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Ducks -23.5 · O/U 54.5 · ML Ducks -2500 / Cowboys +1100

-23.5 on Ducks is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 54.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Ducks -2500 / Cowboys +1100. Compare this against your own book before 12:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Old Dominion Monarchs at Virginia Tech Hokies

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Hokies -19.5 · O/U 47.5 · ML Monarchs +800 / Hokies -1300

A -19.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 47.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Monarchs +800 / Hokies -1300. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 12:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Penn State Nittany Lions at Temple Owls

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Lions -24 · O/U 51 · ML Lions -3000 / Owls +1300

-24 on Lions is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 51 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Lions -3000 / Owls +1300. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 12:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Purdue Boilermakers

NCAAF · Sat 12:00 PM ET · Deacons -3 · O/U 50.5 · ML Deacons -152 / Boilermakers +126

A -3 price on Deacons puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 50.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Deacons -152 / Boilermakers +126. The number is parked on 3, the single most common NFL and college margin, so buying or selling that half point matters more here than anywhere else on the board. Prices move up to 12:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Georgia Bulldogs

NCAAF · Sat 12:45 PM ET · Bulldogs -40 · O/U 55.5

-40 on Bulldogs is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. The total is 55.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 12:45 PM ET and decide from there.

Colgate Raiders at Central Michigan Chippewas

NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Chippewas -21.5 · O/U 48.5 · ML Raiders +1025 / Chippewas -2150

A -21.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 48.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Raiders +1025 / Chippewas -2150. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:00 PM ET.

Holy Cross Crusaders at Miami (OH) RedHawks

NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · RedHawks -30.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Crusaders +2200 / RedHawks -6000

-30.5 on RedHawks is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. A total of 50.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Crusaders +2200 / RedHawks -6000. Compare this against your own book before 1:00 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

UT Martin Skyhawks at West Virginia Mountaineers

NCAAF · Sat 1:00 PM ET · Mountaineers -42 · O/U 55.5

A -42 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. The total is 55.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 1:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Stony Brook Seawolves at Ball State Cardinals

NCAAF · Sat 2:00 PM ET · Cardinals -14 · O/U 55 · ML Seawolves +445 / Cardinals -637

-14 on Cardinals is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. With the side this clear, 55 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Seawolves +445 / Cardinals -637. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 2:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Robert Morris Colonials at Akron Zips

NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Zips -27.5 · O/U 44 · ML Colonials +1950 / Zips -6000

A -27.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 44 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Moneyline consensus is Colonials +1950 / Zips -6000. Prices move up to 3:30 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Alabama Crimson Tide at Kentucky Wildcats

NCAAF · Sat 3:30 PM ET · Tide -10 · O/U 48.5 · ML Tide -390 / Wildcats +310

The books have Tide at -10, which is a two-score price and therefore a bet on margin rather than on outcome. The total is 48.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Tide -390 / Wildcats +310. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 3:30 PM ET and decide from there.

Written reads cover the 24 games closest to a pick'em, where a half point of value is worth the most. The remaining 55 games on today's slate are on the full board above with consensus numbers.

How To Read Today's College Football Numbers

College football's defining feature is dispersion. The gap between the best and worst teams on any Saturday is far wider than anything the NFL produces, and that changes how every number should be read.

  • Big spreads are not automatically wrong. A 31-point favourite can be correctly priced, and betting dogs on principle is a losing strategy. What matters is whether the number matches the talent gap, which is what power ratings are for.
  • Totals run high and move hard. Tempo differences between programmes are enormous, and a total in the 60s tells you about pace as much as quality.
  • Limits are lower, so numbers are softer. Books cannot price a hundred and thirty teams as tightly as thirty-two, and the gap between two books on the same game is routinely a full point or more. This is the sport where shopping earns the most.
  • Motivation is real but overused. Look-ahead spots and letdowns exist; they are also the most over-narrated angle in the sport. Treat them as a tiebreaker, never as a thesis.

Why College Numbers Are Softer Than The NFL's

What makes an FBS market easier to attack than an NFL one.
FactorNFLCollege football
Teams to price32130+
Games per week~1660+
Betting limitsVery highLower, especially off-brand games
Public attentionEvery gameConcentrated on ~10 games

The consequence: the profitable college work is usually in games nobody is talking about, and the least profitable is in the one game everybody is. College totals covers the market where that gap is widest.

What Makes Today's Card

Same bar as every other sport: a measurable difference between our number and the market's, larger than the cost of getting on. In college football that difference shows up more often, so the card is longer here than it is in the NFL — and the sizing is deliberately not larger, because the variance is.

Bowl season and the playoff get their own treatment on bowl games and playoff betting, since layoff and motivation genuinely dominate those spots. The record is published either way.

Earlier Editions

Every edition of this page is kept permanently. The numbers stay exactly as they were posted on the morning of the slate, which makes the archive the only honest way to check what a market looked like before the games were played rather than after.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are today's college football picks free?

The board, the game previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.

Is college football easier to beat than the NFL?

The numbers are softer, which is not the same as easier. A hundred and thirty teams means books price less precisely, but it also means you have to know something about programmes nobody covers. The edge is real and it is work — and it is concentrated in games the public ignores.

Should I bet big college football underdogs?

Not as a rule. Large spreads in college are frequently correct because the talent gaps genuinely are that wide. The question is always whether this number matches this mismatch, which is a power rating question rather than a philosophical one.

Why are there so many games on this board?

Because a college Saturday can carry sixty games across the FBS. Every game with a consensus number posted for today appears above, ordered by kickoff, so you can see the whole slate rather than the handful on national television.
