Best Bets Today — August 3, 2026
Updated August 3, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Monday's board is all baseball, and every line sits on the run-line's most common number, minus 1.5. Totals range from 8 up to 11.5, with most matchups clustered around 8 or 9. The gap between moneyline prices and that flat 1.5 spread does the real work here — some favorites are priced to win comfortably, others barely edge their opponent at all.
Archived edition — market snapshot from Monday, August 3, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see best bets today.
The Card On Aug 3
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
No graded plays were published on this page for August 3, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on August 3, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies
Card focus
MLB · Mon 6:41 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 9.5 · ML Nationals +144 / Phillies -170
Philadelphia sits at -1.5 with a -170 moneyline, a gap that says the market expects the Phillies to win outright more often than they win by two. A one-run Philadelphia win cashes the moneyline but misses the spread, which is the entire question on this side. Washington at +144 needs either a win or a one-run loss to make the run line the better price. The 9.5 total is middle-of-the-road for this slate, giving neither side of that number much extra lean.
St. Louis Cardinals at New York Yankees
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:06 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Cardinals +182 / Yankees -214
New York's -214 moneyline against a -1.5 spread is a wide split, meaning the book sees the Yankees as clear favorites but still wants insurance against a narrow win. St. Louis at +182 is live if this stays a one-run game. The total of 8 is the lowest posted tonight, tighter than every other matchup on the board, which makes the under-8 number itself more interesting than either side of the spread here.
Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:41 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Pirates +126 / Brewers -142
Milwaukee's -142 price against Pittsburgh's +126 is a moderate gap for a -1.5 line, suggesting the market views a multi-run Brewers win as plausible but not overwhelming. Pittsburgh covering the plus side only requires staying within one run or winning outright. The total sits at 8, matching the low end of tonight's slate, so anyone leaning a side of the run line should note the total leaves little room for one team to pull away without the other going quiet too.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs
Card focus
MLB · Mon 8:06 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Dodgers -122 / Cubs +107
Los Angeles is favored at just -122 with a -1.5 spread attached, a thin moneyline price for a team being asked to win by two. That combination makes the run line the more demanding number relative to what the moneyline alone is pricing in. Chicago at +107 is nearly a pick on the line but gets extra value if the game stays within a run. The total of 8 offers no real lean either way at this number.
San Francisco Giants at Texas Rangers
MLB · Mon 8:06 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Giants +105 / Rangers -121
Texas at -121 is close to even money, yet still carries the standard -1.5 spread, which means the Rangers are being asked to win by two runs despite being only a slight favorite on the moneyline. That's the notable tension here: San Francisco at +105 covers with a win or a one-run loss, a real possibility given how tight the moneyline is. Total sits at 8, in line with most of tonight's card.
Toronto Blue Jays at Houston Astros
MLB · Mon 8:10 PM ET · Astros -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Jays +111 / Astros -127
Houston's -127 moneyline against Toronto's +111 is a narrow gap for a -1.5 favorite, again putting more weight on the run line than the moneyline alone suggests. A one-run Astros win covers the moneyline but not the spread, so the side bet here really comes down to margin, not outcome. The total of 9 is a touch higher than several other games tonight, giving the over slightly more to work with than the under.
Tampa Bay Rays at Colorado Rockies
MLB · Mon 8:41 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 11.5 · ML Rays -164 / Rockies +145
Tampa Bay's -164 price is the heaviest favorite moneyline on the early slate outside the Yankees game, and it comes with the same -1.5 spread as everywhere else. Colorado at +145 stays live if this is a one-run game. What stands out is the total: 11.5 is well above the 8-to-9 range covering most of tonight's card, meaning the total itself carries more information here than the spread does.
San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Padres -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Padres +100 / Diamondbacks -115
This one splits its own numbers: San Diego is the -1.5 favorite on the spread, but Arizona is the moneyline favorite at -115 to San Diego's plus-money +100. That disagreement between the two markets is the story of this game, not the total, which sits at a fairly ordinary 9. Anyone pricing the spread here is effectively betting that the Padres both win and win by two, a tougher ask than the flat run-line favorite tag implies.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on August 3, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see best bets today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
