Best Bets Today: October 28, 2026

Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.

Updated October 28, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

19 games on the Best Bets board for Wednesday, October 28, 2026 across NCAAF, NBA, NHL, MLB. 6 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Flyers @ Capitals at -1.5 — a one-score game the market leans in only slightly. Totals average 153.2 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals

Card focus

NHL · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Capitals -1.5 · O/U 6 · ML Flyers +190 / Capitals -230

The consensus has Capitals -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 6. Moneyline consensus is Flyers +190 / Capitals -230. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:40 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Milwaukee Brewers at Tampa Bay Rays

Card focus

MLB · Wed 8:00 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Brewers -148 / Rays +126

Brewers is only -1.5 against Rays, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 6.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Brewers -148 / Rays +126. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 8:00 PM ET and decide from there.

Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers

Card focus

NHL · Wed 8:40 PM ET · Oilers -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Flames +180 / Oilers -215

A -1.5 price on Oilers puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Flames +180 / Oilers -215. Prices move up to 8:40 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

New Jersey Devils at Colorado Avalanche

Card focus

NHL · Wed 9:10 PM ET · Avalanche -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Devils +145 / Avalanche -172

-1.5 on Avalanche is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Devils to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 6.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Devils +145 / Avalanche -172. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 9:10 PM ET.

Kennesaw State Owls at Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

NCAAF · Wed 7:00 PM ET · Raiders -2.5 · O/U 50.5 · ML Owls +120 / Raiders -142

Raiders is only -2.5 against Owls, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 50.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Owls +120 / Raiders -142. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:00 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Miami Heat at Atlanta Hawks

NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · Hawks -3.5 · O/U 242 · ML Heat +130 / Hawks -155

The number on Hawks is -3.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The market has priced 242 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Heat +130 / Hawks -155. Prices move up to 7:10 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Charlotte Hornets at Detroit Pistons

NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · Pistons -6.5 · O/U 215 · ML Hornets +204 / Pistons -250

At -6.5, Pistons is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 215. Moneyline consensus is Hornets +204 / Pistons -250. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:10 PM ET and decide from there.

Washington Wizards at Cleveland Cavaliers

NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · Cavaliers -9.5 · O/U 239 · ML Wizards +310 / Cavaliers -400

At -9.5, Cavaliers is being priced to win by two scores, and a number that size shifts the interesting question from who wins to whether Wizards keeps it respectable. With the side this clear, 239 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Wizards +310 / Cavaliers -400. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 7:10 PM ET.

Philadelphia 76ers at Indiana Pacers

NBA · Wed 7:10 PM ET · 76ers -5 · O/U 236.5 · ML 76ers -190 / Pacers +158

The number on 76ers is -5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. 236.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is 76ers -190 / Pacers +158. Compare this against your own book before 7:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Orlando Magic at Toronto Raptors

NBA · Wed 7:40 PM ET · Raptors -4.5 · O/U 223.5 · ML Magic +158 / Raptors -185

At -4.5, Raptors is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The market has priced 223.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Magic +158 / Raptors -185. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 7:40 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks at New Mexico State Aggies

NCAAF · Wed 8:00 PM ET · Gamecocks -3.5 · O/U 49.5 · ML Gamecocks -160 / Aggies +135

The number on Gamecocks is -3.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. The total sits at 49.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Gamecocks -160 / Aggies +135. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Prices move up to 8:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

New York Knicks at Chicago Bulls

NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Knicks -7 · O/U 234.5 · ML Knicks -267 / Bulls +215

Knicks -7 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. The market has priced 234.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Knicks -267 / Bulls +215. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 8:10 PM ET.

Denver Nuggets at New Orleans Pelicans

NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Nuggets -5.5 · O/U 241 · ML Nuggets -200 / Pelicans +165

The number on Nuggets is -5.5, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 241. Moneyline consensus is Nuggets -200 / Pelicans +165. Compare this against your own book before 8:10 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Golden State Warriors at Minnesota Timberwolves

NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Timberwolves -3.5 · O/U 228.5 · ML Warriors +135 / Timberwolves -162

At -3.5, Timberwolves is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The total sits at 228.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Warriors +135 / Timberwolves -162. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 8:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Houston Rockets at Milwaukee Bucks

NBA · Wed 8:10 PM ET · Rockets -8.5 · O/U 227.5 · ML Rockets -336 / Bucks +270

At -8.5, Rockets is being priced to win by two scores, and a number that size shifts the interesting question from who wins to whether Bucks keeps it respectable. With the side this clear, 227.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Rockets -336 / Bucks +270. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 8:10 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz

NBA · Wed 9:10 PM ET · Spurs -12.5 · O/U 233.5 · ML Spurs -610 / Jazz +430

-12.5 on Spurs is the market expecting this to be decided early, which makes the total the more informative of the two prices here. The total is 233.5, and on a game priced this lopsided it is the number carrying most of the information: it tells you whether the market expects the favourite to bury this or grind it out. Moneyline consensus is Spurs -610 / Jazz +430. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 9:10 PM ET and decide from there.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Dallas Mavericks

NBA · Wed 9:40 PM ET · Thunder -6 · O/U 229 · ML Thunder -225 / Mavericks +185

The number on Thunder is -6, which prices a clear advantage rather than a mismatch, and leaves the underdog live in the fourth quarter. 229 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Thunder -225 / Mavericks +185. Compare this against your own book before 9:40 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Seattle Kraken

NHL · Wed 10:10 PM ET · Leafs -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Leafs -118 / Kraken +100

A -1.5 price on Leafs puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Leafs -118 / Kraken +100. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 10:10 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Los Angeles Lakers at Los Angeles Clippers

NBA · Wed 10:40 PM ET · Lakers -4.5 · O/U 228.5 · ML Lakers -195 / Clippers +165

Lakers -4.5 is a real but containable edge — the market expects them to win without expecting the game to stop being a game. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 228.5. Moneyline consensus is Lakers -195 / Clippers +165. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 10:40 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

What Makes A Play A Best Bet

The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.

  1. A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
  2. A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
  3. A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
  4. A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
What this rules out

Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.

How To Compare Prices Across Sports

The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.

Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.

The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.

What This Page Is Not

It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.

It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are today's best bets?

The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.

Is there a best bet every day?

No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.

How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?

Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.

Can I see previous days' best bets?

Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
