Best Bets Today — August 10, 2026
Updated August 10, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Monday's board is all baseball, ten games, every favorite laying the standard -1.5 run line. The moneylines range from near pick'em to -280, and totals span from 7 to 10, giving a clean look at how each book prices the gap between winning outright and winning by two or more. A few of these games show a real split between the run-line favorite and the true moneyline favorite, which is the more interesting number to check before touching the spread.

The Card On Aug 10
A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.
No graded plays were published on this page for August 10, 2026. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on August 10, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.
Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:07 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Sox -156 / Jays +140
Boston sits at -156 on the moneyline with the spread posted at -1.5, meaning Toronto's +1.5 buys back a lot of the close losses baked into that price. For Boston -1.5 to cash, one-run wins have to be taken off the board entirely, which is a tougher ask than the moneyline alone suggests. The total of 8 is on the lower half of the slate, worth more attention than the side given how thin the gap is between favorite and number here.
New York Mets at Atlanta Braves
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:15 PM ET · Braves -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Mets +130 / Braves -145
Atlanta at -145 with a -1.5 line means the market expects the Braves to win outright at a healthy clip, but the spread still needs a two-run cushion to land. That gap between -145 moneyline and the run line is where the Mets' +1.5 gets its value, since a decent share of Atlanta's expected wins are likely single-run affairs. The total sits at 8.5, middle of the pack for this slate, with nothing in the number itself pointing hard either direction.
Baltimore Orioles at Minnesota Twins
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:40 PM ET · Orioles -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Orioles -104 / Twins -107
This one stands out: Minnesota is actually the moneyline favorite at -107 against Baltimore's -104, yet Baltimore carries the -1.5 run line. That mismatch says the market sees this as close to a coin flip straight up, but leans toward Baltimore winning by more if it wins at all. Backing Orioles -1.5 here means betting on margin, not on who wins, which is a different question than the near-even moneyline is answering. Total of 8.5 is unremarkable on its own.
Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals
Card focus
MLB · Mon 7:46 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 9 · ML Phillies -118 / Cardinals +103
Philadelphia's -118 moneyline is close enough to even money that the -1.5 spread is asking for real separation rather than confirming an obvious favorite. St. Louis at +103 is priced almost as a pick'em to win outright, so the Cardinals' +1.5 is largely paying for keeping games within a run. The total of 9 is the second-highest on the board today, which makes the total arguably a sharper conversation than the spread at this price point.
Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels
MLB · Mon 9:38 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Rangers -111 / Angels -101
Texas -111 and Los Angeles -101 are about as tight as a moneyline pair gets, and the -1.5 line on Texas is still the posted spread despite that near dead heat. For Texas to cover, it needs a game that's already a coinflip to also resolve by two-plus runs. The total sits at 8, tied for the lowest on the slate, and given how flat the moneylines are here, that number carries more weight than the side does.
Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks
MLB · Mon 9:40 PM ET · Diamondbacks -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Rockies +175 / Diamondbacks -205
Arizona at -205 is the clearest favorite of the early games, and the -1.5 spread is really just asking whether that heavy favorite wins by more than one when it wins. Colorado's +175 makes the underdog moneyline the more useful hedge if the concern is a single tight loss rather than a competitive game outright. Total of 8.5 lines up with the middle of the slate, without anything in the price to flag it as unusually shaded.
Tampa Bay Rays at Athletics
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Rays -1.5 · O/U 10 · ML Rays -157 / Athletics +139
Tampa Bay -157 carries the day's highest total at 10, which is the number worth studying more than the -1.5 spread here. A total that high paired with a moderate favorite price suggests the market expects scoring from both sides rather than a lopsided script, which cuts against relying on the favorite's run line covering easily. Athletics at +139 are priced as live underdogs on the moneyline even before accounting for the spread question.
Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres
MLB · Mon 9:41 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Brewers -119 / Padres +105
Milwaukee at -119 is a modest favorite carrying the standard -1.5, and San Diego's +105 prices the Padres as live enough that a straight-up upset isn't unlikely. The total of 7 is the lowest on the board, meaning both sides of the total deserve more attention than usual relative to how thin the moneyline gap is. A number this low leaves little room for the favorite to cover -1.5 without a tightly pitched, low-scoring script.
Houston Astros at San Francisco Giants
MLB · Mon 9:46 PM ET · Astros -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Astros -142 / Giants +129
Houston's -142 moneyline against a -1.5 spread again raises the same question as most of tonight's board: how many of Houston's expected wins are by a single run. San Francisco's +129 is a fair price on keeping things close even if not winning outright. Total of 8.5 is squarely average for the slate, which puts the emphasis back on the spread and specifically on whether the favorite's win margin, not likelihood of winning, is priced correctly.
Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Dodgers
MLB · Mon 10:10 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Royals +240 / Dodgers -280
Los Angeles at -280 is the heaviest favorite on the slate, with Kansas City's +240 reflecting how lopsided the moneyline view is before the -1.5 spread even enters the conversation. At this price, the run line is less about whether the Dodgers win and more about whether the expected margin clears two runs, which a favorite this strong should do more often than a thinner favorite would. The total sits at 7.5, on the lower end of tonight's range.
What Makes A Play A Best Bet
The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.
- A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
- A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
- A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
- A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.
How To Compare Prices Across Sports
The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.
Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.
The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.
What This Page Is Not
It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.
It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the odds on this page still available to bet?
No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on August 10, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see best bets today.
Why keep old editions online?
Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.
Were the plays on this card graded?
Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
