Best Bets Today: September 25, 2026

Every league in season on one board, previews of the games the card is built around, and the standard a play has to clear — refreshed every morning.

Updated September 25, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

22 games on the Best Bets board for Friday, September 25, 2026 across MLB, NCAAF. 19 of them are priced inside three points, which is where a half point of line shopping is worth the most. The tightest number on the board is Tigers @ Bears at -1 — a coin flip the market cannot separate. Totals average 17.4 across the slate. Every number below is the median across US books at publication, not one sportsbook's opinion — treat it as the market and compare it to the price in front of you.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

A best bet is not the game we like most. It is the game where the gap between our number and the market's is largest relative to what it costs to get on.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Chicago Cubs at Boston Red Sox

Card focus

MLB · Fri 1:06 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Cubs -120 / Sox +103

Cubs is only -1.5 against Sox, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 6.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Cubs -120 / Sox +103. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 1:06 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees

Card focus

MLB · Fri 4:05 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Orioles +116 / Yankees -138

The consensus has Yankees -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 6.5. Moneyline consensus is Orioles +116 / Yankees -138. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 4:05 PM ET and decide from there.

Chicago Cubs at Boston Red Sox

Card focus

MLB · Fri 6:06 PM ET · Cubs -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Cubs -116 / Sox -102

-1.5 on Cubs is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Sox to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 6.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Cubs -116 / Sox -102. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 6:06 PM ET.

Clemson Tigers at California Golden Bears

Card focus

NCAAF · Fri 10:30 PM ET · Tigers -1 · O/U 50.5 · ML Tigers -118 / Bears -102

A -1 price on Tigers puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 50.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Tigers -118 / Bears -102. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 10:30 PM ET.

Army Black Knights at Temple Owls

NCAAF · Fri 4:00 PM ET · Knights -3 · O/U 48.5 · ML Knights -155 / Owls +134

A -3 price on Knights puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 48.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Knights -155 / Owls +134. The number is parked on 3, the single most common NFL and college margin, so buying or selling that half point matters more here than anywhere else on the board. Prices move up to 4:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Detroit Tigers

MLB · Fri 6:41 PM ET · Pirates -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Pirates -108 / Tigers -109

Pirates is only -1.5 against Tigers, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 8 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Pirates -108 / Tigers -109. Compare this against your own book before 6:41 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Tampa Bay Rays at Philadelphia Phillies

MLB · Fri 6:41 PM ET · Phillies -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Rays +141 / Phillies -167

A -1.5 price on Phillies puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Rays +141 / Phillies -167. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 6:41 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

New York Mets at Washington Nationals

MLB · Fri 6:46 PM ET · Mets -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Mets -136 / Nationals +114

The consensus has Mets -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8. Moneyline consensus is Mets -136 / Nationals +114. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 6:46 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Howard Bison at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

NCAAF · Fri 7:00 PM ET · Knights -43.5 · O/U 56.5

A -43.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. A total of 56.5 beside a spread this size is the market describing pace as much as strength; that is the half of the price still open to disagreement. Prices move up to 7:00 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Navy Midshipmen at UAB Blazers

NCAAF · Fri 7:00 PM ET · Midshipmen -6.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Midshipmen -260 / Blazers +215

At -6.5, Midshipmen is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. 51.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Midshipmen -260 / Blazers +215. This one straddles 7, football's second-biggest margin cluster, so the half point is worth chasing across books. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:00 PM ET and decide from there.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees

MLB · Fri 7:06 PM ET · Yankees -1.5 · O/U 6.5 · ML Orioles +129 / Yankees -153

A -1.5 price on Yankees puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 6.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Orioles +129 / Yankees -153. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 7:06 PM ET.

Cincinnati Reds at Toronto Blue Jays

MLB · Fri 7:08 PM ET · Jays -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Reds +115 / Jays -136

The consensus has Jays -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 7.5. Moneyline consensus is Reds +115 / Jays -136. Compare this against your own book before 7:08 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins

MLB · Fri 7:11 PM ET · Braves -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Braves -125 / Marlins +105

-1.5 on Braves is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Marlins to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 8, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Braves -125 / Marlins +105. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 7:11 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Colorado Rockies at Chicago White Sox

MLB · Fri 7:40 PM ET · Sox -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Rockies +187 / Sox -225

Sox is only -1.5 against Rockies, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 8 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Rockies +187 / Sox -225. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 7:40 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals

MLB · Fri 7:41 PM ET · Guardians -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Guardians -136 / Royals +118

A -1.5 price on Guardians puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 7.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Guardians -136 / Royals +118. Prices move up to 7:41 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

MLB · Fri 7:41 PM ET · Brewers -1.5 · O/U 8 · ML Cardinals +150 / Brewers -175

The consensus has Brewers -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8. Moneyline consensus is Cardinals +150 / Brewers -175. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 7:41 PM ET and decide from there.

Northwestern Wildcats at Indiana Hoosiers

NCAAF · Fri 8:00 PM ET · Hoosiers -20.5 · O/U 49.5 · ML Wildcats +979 / Hoosiers -1800

A -20.5 spread says the books see a mismatch. At that size the side is rarely the useful bet; what the total implies about the shape of the game usually is. With the side this clear, 49.5 is the number worth arguing about — it is the market's estimate of the shape of the game rather than its winner. Moneyline consensus is Wildcats +979 / Hoosiers -1800. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 8:00 PM ET.

Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins

MLB · Fri 8:11 PM ET · Rangers -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Rangers -111 / Twins -106

Rangers is only -1.5 against Twins, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Rangers -111 / Twins -106. Compare this against your own book before 8:11 PM ET — the price you actually get is the only one that pays.

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres

MLB · Fri 9:41 PM ET · Padres -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Diamondbacks +115 / Padres -135

A -1.5 price on Padres puts this inside a single score, and games priced this close are where a half point is worth the most of anywhere on the board. The market has priced 7.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Diamondbacks +115 / Padres -135. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 9:41 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Houston Astros at Athletics

MLB · Fri 9:41 PM ET · Astros -1.5 · O/U 8.5 · ML Astros -173 / Athletics +147

The consensus has Astros -1.5, a margin narrow enough that the difference between books matters more than the difference between the teams. Totals are where a close game gets interesting, and this one is posted at 8.5. Moneyline consensus is Astros -173 / Athletics +147. The board above is the median across US books at publication. Check it against your book before 9:41 PM ET rather than assuming they match.

Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners

MLB · Fri 10:11 PM ET · Mariners -1.5 · O/U 7 · ML Angels +112 / Mariners -132

-1.5 on Mariners is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Angels to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 7, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Angels +112 / Mariners -132. Prices move up to 10:11 PM ET, so treat the number here as where the market was and not necessarily where you can get on.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants

MLB · Fri 10:16 PM ET · Dodgers -1.5 · O/U 7.5 · ML Dodgers -375 / Giants +300

Dodgers is only -1.5 against Giants, which is the market saying it expects a one-score game and leaning barely at all. 7.5 is the posted total. Comparing it against what you think the game looks like is usually a cleaner decision than picking a side this close. Moneyline consensus is Dodgers -375 / Giants +300. None of that is a recommendation — it is what the price implies. Check the current number before 10:16 PM ET and decide from there.

What Makes A Play A Best Bet

The phrase is used loosely everywhere, so here is the specific test a play has to pass to reach this page's card.

  1. A priced disagreement. Our number on the game differs from the market's by more than the vig we pay to get on. No disagreement, no play, however attractive the matchup.
  2. A reason that existed before the number. A schedule spot, a pace mismatch, a pitching edge, a key-number position. If the reasoning was constructed to justify a number we already liked, it is not a reason.
  3. A price still available. An edge that has already been bet away by the time you read it is not an edge. That is why the card ships early and why closing line value is the honest scorecard.
  4. A size that fits. A larger edge earns a second unit. It does not earn a bankroll. See unit sizing.
What this rules out

Parlays built for payout rather than price, "lock of the day" language, and the practice of publishing a best bet every single day regardless of what the board offers. Some days the honest answer is one play, and some days it is none.

How To Compare Prices Across Sports

The board above mixes leagues on purpose, because the question that matters on a mixed slate is not which game you like but which price is best. A -3.5 in the NFL, a -145 in baseball and a 224.5 total in the NBA are all the same kind of object once you convert them.

Convert everything to implied probability and the comparison becomes mechanical: a -145 favourite needs to win 59.2% of the time to break even, so if you think the true number is 63% you have a play, and if you think it is 58% you do not, no matter how confident the write-up sounds. Football spreads need the same treatment against key numbers before they are comparable at all.

The by-sport editions go deeper on each: NFL, NBA, MLB and college football.

What This Page Is Not

It is not a feed of guaranteed winners, and nobody honest sells one. Long-run handicapping at a professional level means winning somewhere in the mid-50s against the spread, which is enough to matter enormously and nothing like enough to be certain about any single game.

It is also not a substitute for your own process. The most valuable thing on this page for a new bettor is the guide list further down, not the card — are sports picks worth it makes that case honestly, including the parts that argue against paying for anything.

Money Maverick Sports publishes analysis and opinion, not predictions of certainty. No play on this page or behind the membership wall is guaranteed. Bet only what you can afford to lose, and if betting has stopped being a choice, call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are today's best bets?

The board above lists every game with a consensus number posted for today across the leagues in season, and the previews cover the games the card is built around. The graded plays themselves — with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — go to members, and every result is posted afterwards on the records page.

Is there a best bet every day?

No, and that is deliberate. A card is built from priced disagreements, and some slates do not contain one worth the vig. A service that publishes a best bet every day of the year is publishing on a schedule rather than on merit.

How do I compare a spread to a moneyline?

Convert both to implied probability, then compare each against your own estimate. The implied probability guide has the arithmetic, and it is the single most useful five minutes a new bettor can spend.

Can I see previous days' best bets?

Yes. Every edition of this page is kept permanently in the pick archive, with the numbers as they stood when it published rather than as they look after the fact.
