NFL Picks Today: October 4, 2026

Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the evergreen method behind the card — refreshed every morning.

Updated October 4, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

Sunday's board spans lines from a razor-thin 2.5 to a double-digit 11.5, with totals ranging from a thin 38.5 up to 52. Several sides sit on or around the key numbers of three and seven, where half-point placement matters more than the price itself. The more interesting numbers today are less about who's favored and more about where the junction of spread and total asks bettors to pick a lane.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

The NFL card is deliberately short. Seventeen games a week means the edge is in waiting for the right number, not in having an opinion on all of them.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

The games today's card is built around: the closest numbers on the board, where a half point is worth the most.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Cardinals -2.5 · O/U 44.5 · ML Cardinals -140 / Giants +116

Arizona's -2.5 carries a half-point cushion off the key number three, with the -140 moneyline implying roughly 58 percent confidence in that margin. For the Giants to clear the number they need an outright win or a loss by one or two points, a tighter outcome than the standard three-point framework usually rewards. The 44.5 total sits in the middle of the league's range with nothing distinguishing it; the side is the more textured number here.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bengals -2.5 · O/U 52 · ML Jaguars +122 / Bengals -144

Cincinnati's -2.5 is a modest number attached to a -144 price, suggesting the market still expects a single-score game despite the favorite tag. The 52 total is among the higher postings on the slate, meaning this line is really a bet on pace and scoring environment rather than margin. Jacksonville covering only requires staying within two points or winning outright. With the spread this flat, the total is the sharper discussion point today.

Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers

Card focus

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · 49ers -2.5 · O/U 48.5 · ML Broncos +125 / 49ers -145

San Francisco's -2.5 and the 48.5 total together describe a game expected to be close and moderately high-scoring. The -145 moneyline implies the 49ers win outright a bit more often than the 2.5-point margin alone would suggest, a gap worth noting. Denver only needs to lose by one or two, or win, to cash the spread side. At 48.5, the total splits the difference between a shootout and a grind, offering no clear lean either way.

Indianapolis Colts at Washington Commanders

NFL · Sun 9:30 AM ET · Colts -4.5 · O/U 46.5 · ML Colts -210 / Commanders +175

Indianapolis is -4.5 but priced at -210 on the moneyline, a wider gap between spread and price than the half-point number alone implies, meaning the market sees real outright win probability beyond just clearing a field goal plus one. Washington covering requires staying within four points, a tougher ask than the vig-adjusted odds reflect. The 46.5 total is unremarkable; the side carries the more interesting discrepancy to parse here.

Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Ravens -11.5 · O/U 42.5 · ML Titans +520 / Ravens -725

Baltimore's -11.5 against a 42.5 total is a notable pairing: a near two-touchdown favorite in a game not expected to produce much combined scoring. That combination implies the model sees a lopsided, lower-possession script rather than a blowout built on pace. Tennessee covering means losing by eleven or fewer, which given the total's ceiling likely means keeping the final margin close throughout rather than erasing a late deficit. The total's shape matters as much as the spread.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bills -7 · O/U 50 · ML Patriots +260 / Bills -325

Buffalo's -7 sits right on the most common NFL margin, so the half point either direction carries real weight for bettors choosing -6.5 or -7.5 elsewhere. At 50, the total is one of the day's higher numbers, meaning this line expects points from both sides even with a lopsided favorite. New England covering requires losing by six or fewer, a notably different proposition than simply not losing outright given the moneyline gap to -325.

New York Jets at Chicago Bears

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bears -3.5 · O/U 43 · ML Jets +160 / Bears -193

Chicago's -3.5 clears the three-point key number by a half point, which matters more than the -193 price suggests on its own. The 43 total is on the lower end of the slate, implying a grind-it-out expectation that could make field position and short drives decide the margin. New York covering needs a game that stays within three points or a win, the kind of outcome a low total environment tends to produce more often than a blowout.

Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Texans -3 · O/U 48.5 · ML Cowboys +130 / Texans -154

Houston's spread sits exactly at the three-point key number with no half point of cushion, meaning a three-point final pushes rather than settles the bet either way. That makes this one of the more sensitive sides on the slate to minor scoring variance. The 48.5 total is moderately high. Dallas covering requires landing on three or better, while the total asks whether both offenses combine for more than a field goal shy of fifty.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Packers -3 · O/U 39 · ML Packers -168 / Buccaneers +142

Green Bay's -3 is another line parked on the key number with no half point buffer, so a three-point outcome is a non-decision for bettors on either side. The total of 39 is the lowest on the board, signaling an expectation of limited scoring that would naturally produce more three-point finals than higher-total games. Tampa Bay covering means staying within three, an outcome the total's shape makes more plausible than usual.

Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Rams -3.5 · O/U 42.5 · ML Rams -190 / Eagles +160

Los Angeles' -3.5 clears the three-point number by a half point, with a -190 moneyline implying roughly 65 percent win probability outright. The 42.5 total is on the lower side, suggesting a game where field goals and short drives could decide the final margin as much as touchdowns. Philadelphia covering requires a loss of three or fewer, a tighter ask than the moneyline alone implies given how often three-point games occur in low-total environments.

Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings

NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Vikings -10 · O/U 38.5 · ML Dolphins +430 / Vikings -590

Minnesota's -10 against a 38.5 total, the lowest on the slate, describes a game expected to be decided more by field position and limited possessions than by pace. A double-digit favorite in a low-scoring shell implies the model sees this as a methodical rather than explosive mismatch. Miami covering means staying within nine, which in a 38.5-total game likely means neither offense separates by more than a score and a field goal.

Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Chiefs -4.5 · O/U 48 · ML Chiefs -225 / Raiders +185

Kansas City's -4.5 pairs with a 48 total, a combination that implies a moderately paced game decided by more than a field goal but without excessive scoring. The -225 moneyline suggests outright win confidence beyond what the spread alone conveys. Las Vegas covering requires a margin of four or fewer, splitting the difference between a backdoor cover and a genuine upset. The total here is close enough to the side's implied margin to warrant equal attention.

Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Seahawks -7 · O/U 42.5 · ML Chargers +275 / Seahawks -350

Seattle's -7 lands on the most significant key number in football, so the absence or presence of a half point elsewhere on this line changes cover frequency meaningfully. The 42.5 total is on the lower end, suggesting a game where one or two scoring plays could be the entire margin. Los Angeles covering means losing by six or fewer, a notably different bet than simply staying competitive given how often seven-point games land exactly on the number.

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers

NFL · Sun 8:20 PM ET · Lions -3.5 · O/U 51 · ML Lions -197 / Panthers +165

Detroit's -3.5 clears the three-point number by a half point, while the 51 total is the highest on the slate, implying an expectation of a faster-paced, higher-scoring game than most other matchups today. That combination makes the total arguably the more interesting number here, since a high-scoring game raises the odds of a final margin landing outside the tidy three-to-four point range the spread anticipates. Carolina covering requires a loss of three or fewer.

How To Read Today's NFL Numbers

Every spread and total on the board above is the median across the US sportsbooks surveyed at publication, which makes it a fair statement of where the market sits rather than one book's shading. Your own book will differ, sometimes by the half point that decides the bet.

Three things to check before anything else:

  • Where the number sits relative to 3 and 7. Roughly a quarter of NFL games land on exactly those margins. Moving from -3 to -2.5 buys real win probability; moving from -5 to -4.5 buys almost none. Detail in key numbers.
  • Which direction the number has already travelled. A game that opened at -6 and sits at -3.5 is telling you something the closing number will confirm. That is the substance of closing line value.
  • Whether the total or the side is the more interesting price. On most NFL slates the total is the softer of the two, because public money concentrates on sides.

When To Bet An NFL Game Today

NFL numbers follow a weekly rhythm, and the same play is worth different prices depending on when you take it.

None of that tells you which side to take. It tells you what a side is worth once you have decided, which is the part most bettors skip.

What Makes Today's Card

A number reaching the card has to clear the same bar every day: our own price on the game has to differ from the market price by more than the vig we are paying to get on. That is it. No play is added because a slate looks thin, and a slate with nothing on it gets nothing.

That produces two to five NFL plays in a normal week rather than a full slate of them, and it is why the documented record is posted publicly rather than described in adjectives. If you want the reasoning rather than the plays, the expected value and unit sizing guides are the whole method in two pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are today's NFL picks free?

The board, the game-by-game previews and the analysis on this page are free and updated every morning. The graded card — the actual plays with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — goes to members, and last season's results are posted on the records page whether they were good or bad.

Where do the odds on this page come from?

They are the median spread and total across the US sportsbooks surveyed when the page was published, so no single book's shading distorts the number. Lines move all day; always confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the difference matters more than most bettors assume.

How many NFL plays should be on a card?

Fewer than most services publish. Seventeen games a season and one slate a week means genuine number edges are scarce, so two to five plays is a normal week and zero is a legitimate answer to a bad one. A service that finds ten plays every Sunday is selling volume, not edge.

Why does this page change every day?

Because the board does. A new edition publishes each morning with the day's games and numbers, and the previous day's edition is kept permanently in the pick archive so you can see what the market looked like before the games were played rather than after.
