NFL Picks Today — October 18, 2026

Updated October 18, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

Twelve games on the Sunday slate run from near pick'ems to a -12.5 blowout number, with totals spanning 39 to 53.5. Several sides sit right on or around the NFL's key numbers of 3 and 7, where half-point positioning matters more than usual. The more interesting markets today are less about which favorite is correct and more about whether the number itself — the margin or the total — is priced at a number that actually separates outcomes.

Archived edition — market snapshot from Sunday, October 18, 2026. Every spread, total and price on this page is the number that was on the board when this edition published on that date. It is a historical record: the games have been played, the prices are not current, and nothing here is available to bet. For the live slate see nfl picks today.

The Card On Oct 18

The NFL card is deliberately short. Seventeen games a week means the edge is in waiting for the right number, not in having an opinion on all of them.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Every number quoted in these reads is the one that was on the board on October 18, 2026. Nothing here has been revised with hindsight, and nothing here reflects the current market.

Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bears -1 · O/U 52.5 · ML Bears -116 / Falcons -103

Chicago is priced at -1 on the road, with moneylines of -116 and -103 showing just how little separation the market sees here. At a single point, there's no key-number argument either way — this is effectively a coin flip with a label on it. The number worth more attention is the total. At 52.5, it's among the higher totals on the board, which puts more pressure on which offense is on the field last than on who the three-point favorite tag belongs to.

New Orleans Saints at New York Giants

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Saints -0.5 · O/U 46 · ML Saints -110 / Giants -109

New Orleans sits at -0.5, with moneylines of -110 and -109 confirming the market has no real lean. At half a point, the spread bet reduces to picking the outright winner, since no final margin pushes. The total of 46 is middle-of-the-road for this slate, giving no obvious signal on its own. With the side this flat, the decision here is really about which team you think wins straight up, not about squeezing value out of the number.

Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers

Card focus

NFL · Sun 8:20 PM ET · Packers -1 · O/U 53.5 · ML Cowboys -104 / Packers -115

Green Bay closes at -1 for this prime-time spot, with Dallas priced at -104 and Green Bay at -115 — a gap that's mostly vig, not conviction. A one-point line offers no key-number shelter on either side. The total at 53.5 is the highest number on the entire slate, suggesting the market expects a game decided late and by whichever side has the ball last, which makes the total a more relevant conversation here than the razor-thin spread.

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL · Sun 9:30 AM ET · Jaguars -2.5 · O/U 42 · ML Texans +120 / Jaguars -145

Jacksonville is favored by 2.5, a number that straddles the three-point key threshold without quite reaching it — Houston covers with any outright win or a loss by one or two. The moneyline gap, +120 to -145, is wider than the spread alone would suggest, which is normal vig behavior on a short favorite rather than a market disagreement. At 42, the total is low for this slate, pointing toward a game where field position and clock matter as much as scoring.

Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Ravens -3 · O/U 39.5 · ML Ravens -175 / Browns +146

Baltimore's -3 sits on the single most important number in football. A push is live here, which is why the moneyline (-175/+146) carries more information than the spread alone — it prices the chance of an outright win separately from a win by exactly three. Cleveland backers are effectively buying protection against a three-point loss. The total at 39.5 is modest, reinforcing a game where one or two scores late can flip both the spread and total outcomes.

Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Panthers -3 · O/U 39 · ML Panthers -175 / Eagles +146

Carolina closes at -3, another game sitting squarely on the key number, with the same push risk that comes with it. The moneyline split, -175 to +146, is steep for a three-point line, meaning the market is pricing a meaningfully higher chance of an outright Carolina win than the spread number alone implies. At 39, the total is the lowest on the slate, which narrows the margin for error on both sides of that spread considerably.

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Colts -6.5 · O/U 44.5 · ML Titans +260 / Colts -325

Indianapolis is laying 6.5, a number that falls between a field goal and a touchdown — the Colts need just over a one-score win, while Tennessee covers with any outright win or a loss inside one score. The -325 moneyline reflects more separation than the spread alone suggests. At 44.5, the total sits in the middle of the pack, leaving the side as the more actionable number here given how cleanly 6.5 splits common NFL scoring margins.

New York Jets at New England Patriots

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Patriots -7 · O/U 43.5 · ML Jets +280 / Patriots -350

New England lays the full 7, the second-most valuable key number in football behind 3. That means a one-point move off this number in either direction carries real weight, since touchdown-margin games are common outcomes. The Jets at +7 cover with a loss of six points or fewer, a notably different proposition than +6.5 would be. At 43.5, the total is unremarkable, which makes the spread's position on this key number the more relevant piece of the board.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Steelers -2.5 · O/U 39 · ML Steelers -144 / Buccaneers +120

Pittsburgh is favored by 2.5, short of the three-point key number, so Tampa Bay covers with any outright win or a one- or two-point loss. The moneyline, -144 to +120, reflects a reasonably confident favorite without pricing in blowout risk. At 39, the total ties for the lowest on the slate, suggesting a game where scoring is expected to be scarce enough that the final margin could plausibly land on either side of 2.5 by a single possession.

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams

NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Rams -12.5 · O/U 51.5 · ML Cardinals +575 / Rams -841

Los Angeles is laying 12.5, by far the largest spread on the board, with a moneyline of -841 that prices the Rams to win outright in the overwhelming majority of scenarios. For Arizona to cover, two scores of separation have to be enough cushion against a double-digit favorite, a much narrower ask than simply avoiding a blowout loss. The total at 51.5 is elevated, meaning the greater uncertainty here is less about the winner and more about how many possessions get through before the margin is decided.

Buffalo Bills at Las Vegas Raiders

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Bills -4.5 · O/U 53.5 · ML Bills -235 / Raiders +195

Buffalo is favored by 4.5, a number just beyond the field-goal key line, so Las Vegas covers with any outright win or a loss by four points or fewer. The -235 moneyline shows a clear favorite without the extreme pricing seen on bigger spreads elsewhere on the slate. At 53.5, the total ties for the highest posted today, which puts real weight on whether this game turns into a shootout that pushes the final margin past that 4.5 line in either direction.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Chiefs -7.5 · O/U 41.5 · ML Chargers +320 / Chiefs -400

Kansas City is laying 7.5, half a point beyond the touchdown key number, meaning Los Angeles covers with a loss of seven or fewer rather than needing an outright upset. The -400 moneyline reflects a heavier favorite than the spread number alone conveys. At 41.5, the total is on the lower end of the slate, which narrows the room for a late-game touchdown to swing the spread outcome the way it could in a higher-scoring environment.

How To Read Today's NFL Numbers

Every spread and total on the board above is the median across the US sportsbooks surveyed at publication, which makes it a fair statement of where the market sits rather than one book's shading. Your own book will differ, sometimes by the half point that decides the bet.

Three things to check before anything else:

  • Where the number sits relative to 3 and 7. Roughly a quarter of NFL games land on exactly those margins. Moving from -3 to -2.5 buys real win probability; moving from -5 to -4.5 buys almost none. Detail in key numbers.
  • Which direction the number has already travelled. A game that opened at -6 and sits at -3.5 is telling you something the closing number will confirm. That is the substance of closing line value.
  • Whether the total or the side is the more interesting price. On most NFL slates the total is the softer of the two, because public money concentrates on sides.

When To Bet An NFL Game Today

NFL numbers follow a weekly rhythm, and the same play is worth different prices depending on when you take it.

What Makes Today's Card

A number reaching the card has to clear the same bar every day: our own price on the game has to differ from the market price by more than the vig we are paying to get on. That is it. No play is added because a slate looks thin, and a slate with nothing on it gets nothing.

That produces two to five NFL plays in a normal week rather than a full slate of them, and it is why the documented record is posted publicly rather than described in adjectives. If you want the reasoning rather than the plays, the expected value and unit sizing guides are the whole method in two pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the odds on this page still available to bet?

No. Every spread, total and price here is the market snapshot captured on October 18, 2026, the day this edition published. The games have been played and the numbers are a historical record. For the current board see nfl picks today.

Why keep old editions online?

Because a service that deletes its old boards is asking to be taken on trust. Keeping each edition exactly as it published means the numbers we posted before the games can be checked against what happened after them, and the graded plays are totalled on the records page whether the month was good or bad.

Were the plays on this card graded?

Plays are graded once the games finish, and the result is shown on the card above — win, loss or push. A play still marked pending on an old edition is one that has not been settled yet; it is never removed. Past results do not predict future results.
