NBA Picks Today: October 24, 2026

Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.

Updated October 24, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

Saturday's eight-game NBA slate runs from a near pick'em Wizards-Bulls number at 1.5 to lopsided double-digit favorites in Cleveland, Philadelphia, San Antonio and Denver. Totals range from 219 in Phoenix to 244 in Washington-Chicago, the widest total spread on the board. The more useful conversations tonight sit in the gaps between spread-implied win probability and the posted moneylines rather than in the spreads themselves.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

The NBA is the most schedule-driven league in American sport. Most of the edge on a given night is in knowing which teams are being asked to do something unreasonable.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Miami Heat at Charlotte Hornets

Card focus

NBA · Sat 6:10 PM ET · Heat -3.5 · O/U 230.5 · ML Heat -155 / Hornets +130

Miami's 3.5 sits half a point off the round number, so a three-point final is a push-proof outcome either way. Charlotte only needs to lose by three or fewer to cover, while Miami backers need a clean four-point win. The -155/+130 split prices Miami near 61 percent to win outright, a sizable gap for a field-goal favorite. At 230.5, the total is mid-pack for this slate. The side carries more signal here than the total given that spread-to-moneyline gap.

Washington Wizards at Chicago Bulls

Card focus

NBA · Sat 8:10 PM ET · Wizards -1.5 · O/U 244 · ML Wizards -118 / Bulls -102

A 1.5-point road favorite paired with a near-even moneyline, -118/-102, is the market calling this a coinflip decided by a handful of possessions. Washington covering requires avoiding a loss; Chicago at +1.5 is effectively buying a free point plus the better side of an even price. At 244, this carries the highest total on tonight's board by a clear margin. That separation makes the total the more interesting number relative to the rest of the slate.

Houston Rockets at Atlanta Hawks

Card focus

NBA · Sat 8:40 PM ET · Hawks -1.5 · O/U 230 · ML Rockets +100 / Hawks -120

Atlanta's 1.5-point home favorite status comes with plus-money odds for Houston, a combination that flags the spread as thin in either direction. Houston covering needs only a one-point loss or an outright win; Atlanta backers need that extra possession to actually show up on the board. The total at 230 is the lowest posted tonight, pointing to an expected grind. That makes the total the sharper angle here, with the spread close to a true coin toss.

Brooklyn Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers

NBA · Sat 7:40 PM ET · Cavaliers -12 · O/U 231 · ML Nets +400 / Cavaliers -550

Cleveland's 12-point line is a whole number with no half-point buffer, so a 12-point final pushes. Brooklyn backers are buying a loss of 11 points or fewer, nothing more. The +400 moneyline implies roughly 20 percent for the Nets to win outright, a higher number than a straight 12-point line typically suggests. That gap between the spread's implied margin and the moneyline's implied win probability makes the side the more interesting market, ahead of the 231 total.

Milwaukee Bucks at Philadelphia 76ers

NBA · Sat 7:40 PM ET · 76ers -12.5 · O/U 234 · ML Bucks +500 / 76ers -700

Philadelphia's 12.5 sits half a point past the round number, removing push risk on a 12 or 13-point final. Milwaukee covering requires staying inside two possessions through the fourth quarter, independent of the final score. The +500 price implies under 17 percent for an outright Bucks win, consistent with how lopsided this line is. With the total at 234, one of the higher numbers tonight, that figure offers more to work with than a spread this decisive.

San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks

NBA · Sat 8:10 PM ET · Spurs -12.5 · O/U 231 · ML Spurs -575 / Mavericks +420

San Antonio's 12.5-point road favorite line, backed by a -575 moneyline, is as decisive a number as this slate posts. Dallas covering only requires staying within two scores late, regardless of who wins. The distance between that spread-implied margin and the +420 price on the Mavericks is the more notable detail here, since the 231 total sits mid-pack and offers little separation from the rest of the board tonight.

New Orleans Pelicans at Denver Nuggets

NBA · Sat 9:10 PM ET · Nuggets -11.5 · O/U 238 · ML Pelicans +374 / Nuggets -485

Denver's 11.5 sits half a point under the round number, so there's no push on a clean 12-point final. New Orleans covering only needs to lose by 11 or fewer, a lower bar than the -485 moneyline suggests given how heavily that price leans toward a Denver win outright. At 238, the total is among the highest posted tonight, making the pace expectation the more notable piece of this matchup than the spread itself.

Golden State Warriors at Phoenix Suns

NBA · Sat 10:10 PM ET · Suns -9.5 · O/U 219 · ML Warriors +306 / Suns -400

Phoenix's 9.5-point home favorite line pairs with the lowest total on the slate, 219, a combination suggesting the market expects a slower game decided in the middle rounds rather than a blowout. Golden State covering needs only to stay within two possessions, not win outright, while the +306 moneyline still prices in real respect for an outright upset. Given how low the total sits relative to the rest of tonight's board, it is the more interesting number here.

How To Read Tonight's NBA Numbers

Basketball spreads are efficient and basketball totals are less so, and the reason is that a total is a statement about pace as much as about quality.

  • Start with possessions. Two teams that play fast produce a high total even when neither is good. The pace and totals guide covers how to convert an expected possession count into a number.
  • Read the schedule before the matchup. A back-to-back on the road at the end of a five-game trip is worth points, and the market prices it — but not always enough. See back-to-backs and rest and travel.
  • Expect late movement. NBA injury news lands in the hour before tip-off and moves spreads several points. A number posted this morning is provisional in a way an NFL number is not.
  • Blowout risk cuts both ways. A team up thirty rests its starters, which is why large spreads and high totals interact in ways a naive model misses.

What Makes Tonight's Card

The bar is the same every night: our number on the game has to differ from the market's by more than the vig. On an eleven-game slate that produces three or four plays, not eleven, and a slate where nothing qualifies gets nothing.

Basketball's schedule structure means a disproportionate share of those plays come from spots rather than from opinions about teams — which is a good thing, because a spot is checkable in advance and an opinion is not. The record is published either way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are tonight's NBA picks free?

The board, the previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.

Why do NBA lines move so late?

Because injury information does. Rest designations and load-management calls are frequently announced in the hour before tip-off, and a starter's status can be worth several points of spread. It is the main reason a morning number and a tip-off number differ more in the NBA than in any other major league.

Are NBA totals easier to beat than spreads?

They are less efficiently priced, which is not the same as easy. A total is a pace estimate, and pace is more predictable than the outcome of a close game — so a bettor with a defensible possession estimate has something to work with. Start with pace and totals.

What happens to this page tomorrow?
