- Where the number sits relative to 3 and 7. Roughly a quarter of NFL games land on exactly those margins. Moving from -3 to -2.5 buys real win probability; moving from -5 to -4.5 buys almost none. Detail in key numbers.
- Which direction the number has already travelled. A game that opened at -6 and sits at -3.5 is telling you something the closing number will confirm. That is the substance of closing line value.
- Whether the total or the side is the more interesting price. On most NFL slates the total is the softer of the two, because public money concentrates on sides.
When To Bet An NFL Game Today
NFL numbers follow a weekly rhythm, and the same play is worth different prices depending on when you take it.
