NFL Picks Today: September 20, 2026

Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the evergreen method behind the card — refreshed every morning.

Updated September 20, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports

Sunday's board is thick with short-to-mid spreads clustered around the key numbers of 3 and 7, plus a pair of lopsided outliers in Baltimore and San Francisco. Totals mostly sit in the low-to-mid 40s, with Dallas-Washington the outlier at 51. The interesting work today is less about picking winners and more about where a half point on either side of 3, 4 or 7 changes the math on backing the number versus fading it.

Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.

Today's Card

The NFL card is deliberately short. Seventeen games a week means the edge is in waiting for the right number, not in having an opinion on all of them.

Where the card is

Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

The games today's card is built around: the closest numbers on the board, where a half point is worth the most.

Game-By-Game Previews

How these previews are written

Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Panthers -2.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Panthers -150 / Falcons +125

Carolina is favored on the road at -2.5, a number that sits just under the field-goal key number of 3. That matters for anyone taking Atlanta at +2.5 or better, since a three-point loss pushes rather than costs the bet. The moneyline gap, -150 to +125, is wider than the spread suggests, meaning the market sees more separation in outright win probability than in expected margin. The total at 43.5 is middling and not the more compelling side of this line.

Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans

Card focus

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Texans -2.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Bengals +125 / Texans -150

-2.5 on Texans is a lean, not a verdict: the market is telling you it expects Bengals to be within a score of this at the end. The total sits at 45.5, which is the faster read on this game than the side: it says how much scoring the market has priced in before you form your own view. Moneyline consensus is Bengals +125 / Texans -150. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Whether that reads cheap or expensive is your call to make against your own book before 1:00 PM ET.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos

Card focus

NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Broncos -2.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Jaguars +130 / Broncos -155

Denver -2.5 at home mirrors the two early games in shape, sitting just under the 3-point key number, which makes the half point on Jacksonville +2.5 worth more than it looks. The moneyline spread, -155 to +130, is a touch wider than a straight -2.5 line would normally carry, suggesting the market gives Denver a bit more outright win equity than the spread alone implies. The 45.5 total is the more balanced number on this card.

New Orleans Saints at Baltimore Ravens

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Ravens -8.5 · O/U 45.5 · ML Saints +324 / Ravens -425

Baltimore -8.5 sits between the two most important football key numbers, 7 and 9, so backing New Orleans at +8.5 avoids the most common margin entirely while still buying nearly two scores of cushion. The -425 moneyline implies a win probability well north of what an 8.5-point line typically prices, which is the wider gap on this slate between spread and moneyline. With the total at 45.5, this reads as a game expected to be lopsided rather than high-scoring.

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Bears -4.5 · O/U 47.5 · ML Vikings +183 / Bears -220

Chicago -4.5 lands between the field-goal and touchdown key numbers, so neither side of the spread inherits extra value from a single point. The 47.5 total is on the higher end for this Sunday's board, and with a -220 moneyline the market is pricing the Bears as clear favorites without demanding the largest possible margin. Minnesota at +183 offers a straightforward hedge against the spread if the read is a close outright game rather than a big Chicago cover.

Cleveland Browns at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Buccaneers -8 · O/U 41.5 · ML Browns +340 / Buccaneers -435

Tampa Bay -8 sits directly on a key number with no half point of cushion either way, so this line carries real push risk that the neighboring games on this slate don't. The -435 moneyline implies heavy favorite status, and the 41.5 total is among the lowest posted today, suggesting a game expected to be decided more by field position and scoring efficiency than by a shootout. Cleveland at +340 is a pure moneyline argument, not a spread one.

Green Bay Packers at New York Jets

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Packers -3.5 · O/U 44.5 · ML Packers -180 / Jets +150

At -3.5, Packers is favoured by more than a field goal and less than a comfortable margin, which is the range where the total and the side inform each other most. The market has priced 44.5 points into this one, which is the number to start from if the side is too close to call. Moneyline consensus is Packers -180 / Jets +150. The number sits beside 3, the most common football margin, which makes shopping for the better side of that half point the whole decision. Whatever you make of it, shop the number before 1:00 PM ET; a half point here is worth more than most opinions about the game.

Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Patriots -5.5 · O/U 41.5 · ML Steelers +200 / Patriots -244

New England -5.5 falls in the gap between the 3 and 7 key numbers, a spread that avoids the most common margins but still requires more than a field goal plus a score to cover cleanly. The -244 moneyline is consistent with a mid-size favorite rather than an extreme one. The 41.5 total is on the low side of today's board, which lines up with a spread that isn't pricing in a track meet.

Philadelphia Eagles at Tennessee Titans

NFL · Sun 1:00 PM ET · Eagles -7 · O/U 39.5 · ML Eagles -340 / Titans +270

Philadelphia -7 sits directly on the most common NFL margin, so there's no half-point buffer for either side and this line carries genuine push risk. The -340 moneyline implies the Eagles are considered heavy favorites to win outright, well beyond what a flat 7-point line usually signals on its own. The total at 39.5 is the lowest posted this week, framing this as a game where the market expects the number to be decided more by field position than scoring volume.

Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers

NFL · Sun 4:05 PM ET · Chargers -6.5 · O/U 43.5 · ML Raiders +245 / Chargers -300

Los Angeles -6.5 sits just below the 7-point key number, meaning Las Vegas backers at +6.5 get the benefit of the single most common margin in football landing on their side of the number. The -300 moneyline suggests a fairly decisive favorite, wider than the spread alone would imply. At 43.5, the total is unremarkable relative to the rest of the slate and secondary to the argument on the number itself.

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Seahawks -4 · O/U 41 · ML Seahawks -205 / Cardinals +173

Seattle -4 sits directly on a secondary key number, just above the field goal margin, which removes some of the half-point value that neighboring lines on this slate carry. The -205 moneyline points to a moderate favorite. The total at 41 is the lowest on the board this week, which is consistent with a spread that isn't pricing in much scoring separation beyond the number itself.

Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · Cowboys -4 · O/U 51 · ML Commanders +175 / Cowboys -205

Dallas -4 is another line parked on a secondary key number rather than the more heavily weighted 3 or 7, so the half point isn't doing extra work for either side here. What stands out is the total at 51, the highest posted on today's slate by a wide margin, which is the more interesting number in this matchup relative to a moneyline of -205 that reads as a fairly ordinary short favorite.

Miami Dolphins at San Francisco 49ers

NFL · Sun 4:25 PM ET · 49ers -13.5 · O/U 45 · ML Dolphins +658 / 49ers -1000

San Francisco -13.5 is the largest spread on the board, and a -1000 moneyline confirms the market sees this as close to a lock on the win but still leaves room for argument on margin. At 45, the total isn't unusually high given the size of the favorite, which suggests the expected path to that spread is more about San Francisco separating on the scoreboard than a high-possession, high-scoring track meet. Miami's side here is a moneyline longshot argument, not a spread one.

Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs

NFL · Sun 8:20 PM ET · Chiefs -6 · O/U 46.5 · ML Colts +230 / Chiefs -285

Kansas City -6 sits just below the 7-point key number, giving Indianapolis backers at +6 the benefit of the most common margin falling just outside the number. The -285 moneyline implies a solid but not extreme favorite. At 46.5, the total is on the higher end of tonight's card, and as the late window's only game, this line stands alone without a competing kickoff pulling market attention elsewhere on the slate.

How To Read Today's NFL Numbers

Every spread and total on the board above is the median across the US sportsbooks surveyed at publication, which makes it a fair statement of where the market sits rather than one book's shading. Your own book will differ, sometimes by the half point that decides the bet.

Three things to check before anything else:

  • Where the number sits relative to 3 and 7. Roughly a quarter of NFL games land on exactly those margins. Moving from -3 to -2.5 buys real win probability; moving from -5 to -4.5 buys almost none. Detail in key numbers.
  • Which direction the number has already travelled. A game that opened at -6 and sits at -3.5 is telling you something the closing number will confirm. That is the substance of closing line value.
  • Whether the total or the side is the more interesting price. On most NFL slates the total is the softer of the two, because public money concentrates on sides.

When To Bet An NFL Game Today

NFL numbers follow a weekly rhythm, and the same play is worth different prices depending on when you take it.

None of that tells you which side to take. It tells you what a side is worth once you have decided, which is the part most bettors skip.

What Makes Today's Card

A number reaching the card has to clear the same bar every day: our own price on the game has to differ from the market price by more than the vig we are paying to get on. That is it. No play is added because a slate looks thin, and a slate with nothing on it gets nothing.

That produces two to five NFL plays in a normal week rather than a full slate of them, and it is why the documented record is posted publicly rather than described in adjectives. If you want the reasoning rather than the plays, the expected value and unit sizing guides are the whole method in two pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are today's NFL picks free?

The board, the game-by-game previews and the analysis on this page are free and updated every morning. The graded card — the actual plays with write-ups and recommended unit sizing — goes to members, and last season's results are posted on the records page whether they were good or bad.

Where do the odds on this page come from?

They are the median spread and total across the US sportsbooks surveyed when the page was published, so no single book's shading distorts the number. Lines move all day; always confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the difference matters more than most bettors assume.

How many NFL plays should be on a card?

Fewer than most services publish. Seventeen games a season and one slate a week means genuine number edges are scarce, so two to five plays is a normal week and zero is a legitimate answer to a bad one. A service that finds ten plays every Sunday is selling volume, not edge.

Why does this page change every day?

Because the board does. A new edition publishes each morning with the day's games and numbers, and the previous day's edition is kept permanently in the pick archive so you can see what the market looked like before the games were played rather than after.
