NBA Picks Today: October 31, 2026
Consensus spreads and totals across US books, a read on every game, and the method behind the card — refreshed every morning.
Updated October 31, 2026 · Money Maverick Sports
Saturday's seven-game NBA slate spans from a near pick'em in Philadelphia-Charlotte to a 12.5-point number in San Antonio, with moneylines ranging from -120 up to -600 on the heaviest favorites. Totals cluster between 216.5 and 241, giving bettors a wider total spread than side spread in several spots. One game, Rockets-Thunder, carries a notably thinner three-book sample worth flagging before treating its number as fully formed.
Numbers below are the median across 11 US sportsbooks surveyed when this edition published, not one book's opinion. Lines move all day — confirm the current price at your own book before betting, and read line shopping for why the half point you give away is the most expensive habit in betting.
Today's Card
The NBA is the most schedule-driven league in American sport. Most of the edge on a given night is in knowing which teams are being asked to do something unreasonable.
Today's graded plays have not been published on this page. Members receive the full card — every play, the write-up behind it and the recommended unit sizing — before the numbers move, and every result is posted publicly afterwards on the records page whether it won or lost.

Game-By-Game Previews
Each read below is drafted by our preview engine from the consensus numbers on this board and nothing else, then filtered before publication: it cannot cite an injury, a record or a statistic, because it is not given any, and language that promises a result is rejected outright. They are a starting point for your own handicapping, not a substitute for it. The plays we actually stake are on the card above.
Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Hornets
Card focus
NBA · Sat 6:10 PM ET · 76ers -1.5 · O/U 216.5 · ML 76ers -120 / Hornets +100
The 1.5-point line on Philadelphia sits almost exactly where the moneyline gap of -120/+100 implies, meaning the market sees this as close to a true toss-up with a shade of home-court value baked into Charlotte's price. For the Hornets side to hold, this has to play as a single-possession game; any multi-score push toward Philadelphia breaks the number. The total of 216.5 is comparatively unremarkable, the side is the more textured number here.
Atlanta Hawks at New Orleans Pelicans
Card focus
NBA · Sat 7:10 PM ET · Hawks -4.5 · O/U 241 · ML Hawks -172 / Pelicans +145
Atlanta's -4.5 lines up with a moneyline of -172, a gap that prices in more than just the spread's margin, suggesting the number itself is the cleaner entry than the price. New Orleans at +145 needs the final margin inside one defensive possession, not just a backdoor cover. The 241 total is the headline number on this slate, among the highest posted, and with a spread this thin it is arguably the more interesting market to shop than the side.
Oklahoma City Thunder at Houston Rockets
Card focus
NBA · Sat 8:40 PM ET · Rockets -4.5 · O/U 218.5 · ML Thunder +146 / Rockets -180
Houston's -4.5 is only surveyed across three books, a thin sample that should make bettors wary of treating this number as settled consensus the way the market-wide prices elsewhere on the slate are. The gap to Oklahoma City's +146 moneyline is standard for a spread in this range. At 218.5, the total sits below the slate's average, with both the spread and the total carrying less supporting market weight here than anywhere else on the card.
Portland Trail Blazers at Utah Jazz
NBA · Sat 3:10 PM ET · Blazers -6.5 · O/U 231.5 · ML Blazers -246 / Jazz +200
Portland's -6.5 is priced at -246 on the moneyline, a gap wide enough that laying the number outright is arguably the more efficient way to back the favorite than laying the full six and a half with the three-digit juice attached. Utah at +200 is live if it keeps the margin inside one score down the stretch. The 231.5 total sits mid-pack on the slate, with little separating it from the side in terms of where the market's conviction actually lives.
Cleveland Cavaliers at Milwaukee Bucks
NBA · Sat 8:10 PM ET · Cavaliers -9 · O/U 237.5 · ML Cavaliers -360 / Bucks +280
Cleveland's -9 carries a -360 moneyline, which prices in the real chance Milwaukee simply loses outright by single digits and covers without ever threatening the result. That gap between side and price is the story here, nine points is a number where the backdoor cover matters more than the actual final margin. At 237.5, the total is elevated enough that it, rather than the lopsided spread, is the number worth closer attention tonight.
Sacramento Kings at Memphis Grizzlies
NBA · Sat 8:10 PM ET · Grizzlies -11 · O/U 233 · ML Kings +360 / Grizzlies -475
Memphis at -11 with a -475 moneyline is a spread built almost entirely around margin rather than outcome, since Sacramento at +360 is already priced to lose outright most of the time. The real question for this number is whether Memphis wins comfortably inside two possessions or the game gets away from Sacramento past the 11. At 233, the total offers a cleaner, less lopsided read on this matchup than either side of the spread.
Minnesota Timberwolves at San Antonio Spurs
NBA · Sat 8:10 PM ET · Spurs -12.5 · O/U 226.5 · ML Timberwolves +446 / Spurs -600
San Antonio's -12.5 is the largest spread on the slate, backed by a -600 moneyline that makes the side almost entirely about margin rather than winner. Minnesota at +446 is already priced to lose most of the time, so the relevant question is whether San Antonio clears 12.5 comfortably or the game tightens late. The 226.5 total is the more balanced number here, with the spread carrying nearly all of the market's conviction on this one.
How To Read Tonight's NBA Numbers
Basketball spreads are efficient and basketball totals are less so, and the reason is that a total is a statement about pace as much as about quality.
- Start with possessions. Two teams that play fast produce a high total even when neither is good. The pace and totals guide covers how to convert an expected possession count into a number.
- Read the schedule before the matchup. A back-to-back on the road at the end of a five-game trip is worth points, and the market prices it — but not always enough. See back-to-backs and rest and travel.
- Expect late movement. NBA injury news lands in the hour before tip-off and moves spreads several points. A number posted this morning is provisional in a way an NFL number is not.
- Blowout risk cuts both ways. A team up thirty rests its starters, which is why large spreads and high totals interact in ways a naive model misses.
Where NBA Value Usually Hides
| Market | Efficiency | Worth attacking? |
|---|---|---|
| Game spread | Very high | Only with a schedule or news edge |
| Game total | Medium to high | Yes, on pace mismatches |
| First-half lines | Medium | Yes, when rest is the thesis |
| Player props | Low to medium | Yes — the best volume market |
| Live lines | Medium | Yes, with a plan set before tip |
| Same-game parlays | Poor value | Rarely |
Each of those has its own page — spreads, totals and props — and the props page is where a nightly slate produces the most repeatable work.
What Makes Tonight's Card
The bar is the same every night: our number on the game has to differ from the market's by more than the vig. On an eleven-game slate that produces three or four plays, not eleven, and a slate where nothing qualifies gets nothing.
Basketball's schedule structure means a disproportionate share of those plays come from spots rather than from opinions about teams — which is a good thing, because a spot is checkable in advance and an opinion is not. The record is published either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are tonight's NBA picks free?
The board, the previews and the analysis on this page are free and refresh every morning. The graded card with write-ups and unit sizing goes to members, and results are posted publicly on the records page.
Why do NBA lines move so late?
Because injury information does. Rest designations and load-management calls are frequently announced in the hour before tip-off, and a starter's status can be worth several points of spread. It is the main reason a morning number and a tip-off number differ more in the NBA than in any other major league.
Are NBA totals easier to beat than spreads?
They are less efficiently priced, which is not the same as easy. A total is a pace estimate, and pace is more predictable than the outcome of a close game — so a bettor with a defensible possession estimate has something to work with. Start with pace and totals.
